Those regularly visiting the North Georgia Cabin Rentals know a lot about the Appalachians. At least, that is common perception as the Cabins are stationed in that range. The Appalachians are a system of mountains in Eastern North America, covering the states of Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania and extending categorically to the state of Georgia. Ironically is it Helen, Georgia where bulk of the North Georgia Cabin Rental range is installed. So you lounge in your North Georgia Cabin Rental, spend a lot of time with family playing card games, sit beside the wood fire, go outside and sit on the porch to enjoy nature, see the sunrise, watch the birds chirp, feel the cool breeze, observe the dead calm lake with people trout fishing on boats and retire thinking you came to the right place. When you do not do any of the above, you indulge in outdoor activities such as mountaineering, rock climbing, trekking and expediting. And what do you do when you do neither? Ever gave the Appalachians a thought? These are the same scenic mountains amid which your cabins are located? Ever thought of knowing some Geology behind them? The Appalachians where North Georgia Cabin Rentals are located span across five geologic provinces, namely the Appalachian Basin, the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Piedmont Province, the Adirondack Province and the New England Province. The Appalachian Basin is a foreland basin containing Paleozoic Sedimentary Rocks of Early Cambrian through Early Permian Age. From north to South, the Appalachian Basin Province crosses New York, Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, West Virginia, Western Maryland, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Tennessee, Northwestern Georgia and Northeastern Alabama. The Northern End of this mountainous basin extends offshore into Lakes Erie and Ontario. The Northern Flank of the basin is a broad homocline dipping gently southeastward off the Cincinnati Arch. The Eastern Flank of the basin is characterized by a complex thrust faulted and folded terrain formed at the end of the Paleozoic by the Alleghenian Orogeny. Your stay at the North Georgia Cabin Rental can be more productive if you carry a help book and study something about Crystalline Appalachians. The Crystalline Appalachians are comprised of the Blue Ridge, Piedmont, Adirondack and New England Provinces. All 4 consist of Precambrian and Cambrian Igneous and Metamorphic Rocks. The surface rocks of the Appalachians consist mainly of a core of moderate to high rank crystalline metamorphic or igneous rocks which because of their superior resistance to weathering and erosion commonly rise above the adjacent areas of low grade metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. Other types of rocks found include the likes of meta-sedimentary and plutonic igneous dating back to the Cambrian and Ordovician Ages. You do not have to be a geologist and study these from a point of writing a dissertation. But some knowledge about where you go and vacation always helps. If not from the point of writing a book, then by all means from the point of knowing a lot about the mountains.
