Kratom and Its Potential in the Medical and Research Industry

Kratom resin is derived from a species of a large tree in the Rubiaceae family found in Southeast Asia whose leaves are found to have medicinal properties. It is also popularly known as Krathom, Ketum, Cratom, Kakuam, Ithang and Thom. Its botanical name is Mitragyna speciosa and it is related botanically to the Corynanthe, Cinchona and Uncaria plant genera part of the same family group as coffee. Kratom has number of medical uses and benefits including its psychoactive effects. In Southeast Asia, the fresh leaves are most often chewed by people seeking the numbing yet stimulating effect. Kratom is grown widely in Indonesia and exported as a dried herb and it is enjoyed in many forms around the world At times the leaves are extracted into water and evaporated into a tar, which can then be swallowed. At present, Kratom resin has gained popularity for recreational purposes as the leaves of the plant have a very pleasant opiate-like effect. Kratom resin is distilled into a concentrated reduction from leaves harvested from the Kratom tree. Kratom leaves or powder is also used for making a bitter tasting Kratom tea and it can also be ingested as Kratom extracts or powdered leaves. Once Kratom resin is extracted and reduced, it is a dark brown non-tacky tar-like substance. It can be molded by hand into small pellet-sized balls and swallowed, washed down with juice or water. This method is used most popularly in Western society. Every person, at some point in his life, will reduire medication. And with the ever advancing technology in the study of drugs and medicine, there will always be enough supply for everyone. However, drugs are not instant lifesavers. They provide potential dangers and side effects that we are all informed about. Because of these side effects, people felt the need to find better and safer alte atives from plants. After all, you can never go wrong with nature. Though nature has also produced some of the most lethal drugs and toxins known to mankind, some have been beneficial to man. Such bounties of nature can be found in the form of medicinal herbs, one of which is Kratom. Kratom or Mitragyna Speciosa is a tree native to South-East Asian countries. It is a special type of medicinal plant because it relieves body ailments and acts as stimulant and depressant, as well. It is because of these effects however that the growing, breeding, production and use of the extract of this plant are prohibited in some countries. Fortunately, most western countries have not completely restricted the use of Kratom extracts and they can still be purchased. There are also online stores that sell kratom at reasonable prices. Extracts of kratom are sold mostly in the form of powder and are provided in online markets as wholesale. Most kratom wholesale products are offered at reasonable prices and can come in various forms and concentrations to suit a variety of pharmaceutical requirements.
