Many people in Michigan, Detroit and elsewhere with vision problems are wearing eye glasses or contact lenses to correct their vision. However these options can be inconvenient especially for a person playing sports or involved in similar activities as the glasses or lenses may slip off. So many people who have problems with their eyesight are looking for an experienced and reliable doctor offering Michigan Lasik Eye Surgery, as they would like to know whether the Lasik will improve their eyesight permanently, the procedure for the surgery, expenses and also the risk involved in the Lasik surgery.

The effectiveness of the Lasik treatment depends to a large extent on the type of vision related problem. There are three main kinds of eye problems, nearsightedness or myopia, where a person is unable to see objects at a distance clearly, farsightedness, where the person finds close by objects looking blurry and astigmatism when all objects appear to be blurred. These problems are caused because the eyeball is too long or short, the cornea is too flat or too curved. It is observed that the Lasik eye treatment is usually most effective for patients who have mild myopia or nearsightedness, for other conditions, the results are less predictable.

In general, Lasik surgery is effective for most patients in improving their eyesight, and there are few cases of loss of vision.lt is recommended that the individuals consults an eye doctor who he trusts to find a reliable Lasik surgeon. For Detroit Lasik Eye Surgery like similar surgery elsewhere, the eye surgeon will first spend time with the patient to understand the eye health, any other eye problems like injuries, diseases the patient has experienced in the past. He will also measure the detailed dimensions of the eye, so that the exact procedure can be finalized. The surgery involves reshaping the cornea of the eye to improve the vision, using a special cutting laser.

There are variations in the laser eye surgery like Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK), Laser assisted subepithelial keratectomy (LASEK), epiLASIK, which differ in the way the cornea and eyeball are modified to improve vision. In some cases, implantable lenses may be used, and a combination of lenses and LASIK called bioptics could improve eyesight Depending on the exact technique used, the patient may experience some pain in the eye. Other problems associated with Lasik include dry eyes, double vision, over-correction and under-correction , astigmatism, flap infection, excess tears and vision changes

However though the surgery may ensure that the person does not require lenses or eyeglasses, the patient should be aware that it is not a permanent solution and the patient may require glasses or other methods to correct his or her vision after decades or years. A person who is over 40 years of age, will often find that nearby objects appear blurred, as the cornea shape changes, and may still require glasses despite undergoing Laser eye surgery. Individuals who are suffering from glaucoma, cataract, dry eyes or similar problems should not opt for the treatment. Also since Lasik eye treatment is an elective treatment, it is not covered by insurance, so the person will have to make a provision for the surgery, which is fairly expensive. So based on the factors mentioned above, a person should decide on whether Lasik method is suitable.
