This is the type of paint used on the outside of a home. Even though the paint states that it is “latex exterior paint” it does not contain any substance from a rubber tree but instead may be water and manufactured chemical or plastic resin combination. Some of the common ingredients can include aluminum silicate or calcium carbonate. The paint may also include other main ingredients such as sand or quartz to add quantity to the exterior paint along with water.

Many painters prefer this type of paint because it does not require the use of paint removers or thinners that can create a fire hazard and it can be easily cleaned up. If you get this paint on your hair, hands, or clothes you will have an easy time getting it off if the paint has not dried. Because it is quick drying and durable when you compare it to paint that is oil-based paint, latex exterior paint is preferred.

Advantages of using latex exterior paint

There are many advantages on using this for the exterior of your home in addition to being easy to clean up.

• More durable in most weather conditions

Disadvantage of using latex exterior paint

The only disadvantage is that it is more expensive than the paint that is used to paint the inside of your home because they have to contain more resin.

Because latex exterior paint is water based there are some surfaces that should not be painted using this type of paint. If you paint steel with this paint rusting could happen. If you are painting an entire building or home with different types of materials should make sure what type of paint would work the best on different surfaces. It could be the latex exterior paint there in some circumstances other choices of paint may be more suitable.

It is not recommended that you use any leftover exterior paint as interior paint because the paint will not dry as quick and the paint odors will be stronger. If you do decide to use this paint inside make sure that you give it more time to dry and the home is ventilated adequately. In addition, the visual appeal is not as appealing when you use interior paint.
