Leadership is the act of leading people and managing things. On the other hand, leadership development is an activity that enhances the leadership skills in a person. It is the art of maintaining course in order to ensure that a target is achieved. Good leaders are humble and do not allow ego to outshine their values even under great pressure. Leaders earn trust from others by remaining firm and not allowing their ego to affect their decision making process. Traits of a good leader Leaders should posses the following very important traits: Confidence: - Leaders should be confident in their capacity and ability to lead. A confident leader is always willing to make decisions and set goals without fear. People are ready to side with people who are confident in their decisions. Charismatic: - Leaders should be charismatic speakers. This trait is often derived from education and having an opportunity to practice in front of an audience. Most often, eloquent speakers who speak charismatically easily gather followers and can move a crowd easily. Passionate: - Leaders should be very passionate about what they do. Good leaders hold a passion that moves those around them on a stable path towards a common goal. For example, if a leader leading a team in a project does not mind about the outcome of the project, the rest of the team too does not care about it. However, a good leader makes the project a priority and will try very hard to boost the work ethics and morals of their team with the intention of making the project a success. Willingness to make decisions: - Leaders should be willing to make difficult decisions as well. Good communication skills: - A good leader should be able to communicate in a simple language with his people. The communication process is not complete until the listeners have understood the delivered message. Courage: - Courage is the act of doing something risky or facing opposition without fear. A good leader should face things with courage. Attentive: - A leader should pay attention to details. This trait helps them learn whether things are going the right way or not. Problem solver: - There are many problems and conflicts encountered in our workplaces. A good leader should identify such conflicts early enough and come up with a solution. For example, when two workers are conflicting in the office. You are expected to solve the conflict appropriately without favoring or siding with any party. rnIt is important to develop the leadership skills through practice and training. The most important skills are decision-making and effective communication. Communication is supposed to be very easy and clear. Communication entails speaking and listening, poor listening can therefore reduce the effectiveness of communication. We all apply the leadership skills in our lives thus to become better leaders we need to identify the leadership skills you need to develop, explore and improve. When we apply these skills, we make it very easy to work as a team and get better results and a positive change.
