Most people fail to notice the warning signs of approaching back pain. Our body will sends us messages before our back starts to hurt. The messages travel along the nerves in our bodies to our brains. Our brain interprets the signals and then tells our bodies what to do to avoid a hurt back. Many backaches begin because of strains or stress on our muscles. Others begin because there is pressure on our nerves. Other times the pain is caused by a disease or hereditary condition that is impossible to control. If you are like most people, I am sure that you enjoy a wide variety of activites like running, jogging, or working out. Each of these is fun to do but can also cause back pain if done incorrectly. Some activities you do each day without thinking about them can also cause back pain. Things like standing up, sitting down, leaning over, picking up things, and bending over can all lead to a hurt back. Learning the proper way to move when doing any activity helps to prevent back pain. Everyone understands this when it comes to something like lifting weights or running. But learning how to lean over to pick up stuff is also important. Knowing how to properly lean over or bend can avert a lot of back pain. Anytime we move there is a right and wrong way to do it. Simple exercises that teach you how to lean and bend are a fantastic way to treat back pain. They are also very effective at treating other joint problems. Once you have trained yourself to move properly, you will be on your way to preventing back pain in the future. Small things like wearing the wrong shoes can cause back pain. This happens because the shoes alter the way you stand and walk. This throws your back out of proper alignment placing stress on the bones, nerves, and muscles in your back. Any stress on muscles, nerves, and bones leads to back pain. Even sitting down or standing up too quickly can put your back under too much stress. This can lead to more back pain. Sit and stand up slowly. Use you arms to support yourself until you are fully sitting or standing. Lying down and curling up in the fetal position will help relieve pain from herniated discs. It also helps to reduce pain from arthritis and sciatica. The position is good because it takes a lot of stress off your back. Try this position if you have any back pain at all. You should do this lying in bed on your side. Bring your knees up to your chest. Put a small cushion or pillow between your knees. This will keep your spine aligned properly. Do not curl up tightly or move your hips. Just rest in a fetal position.
