Human papilloma virus or HPV is the pathogenic microorganism that causes genital wart. While there is no known cure for HPV, there are several ways by which you can treat and control the occurrence of genital warts. This highly infective sexually transmitted disease is characterized by the presence of cauliflower-shaped skin bumps in the genital area. Genital Wart Treatment Option While there is no way for you to get rid of HPV, you can effectively manage and control the its incidence. It is extremely important that you immediately consult with your doctor if you feel some itchiness, pain and burning sensation in the genital area. Three in every 10 cases of genital warts are self-limiting. Your doctor may recommend specific topical creams to help you manage and control the symptoms. For the more stubborn and severe cases, your doctor may recommend surgical procedure to remove the genital warts. Medications for Genital Wart You can consider using any of the known topical medications to manage and control the medical condition. These topical creams have established efficacy and safety in controlling genital warts. Further, the use of these products also boosts our body’s immune system. However, it is important that you avoid any sexual contact during the duration of treatment as these products can potentially weaken diaphragms and condoms. Trichloroacetic acid or TCA is used to burn off the genital warts. TCA should only be used under the close supervision of your doctor and treatment must never be done at home. A plant-based resin, Podophyllin, is also an established cure for genital wart. However, this medication should not be used by pregnant women. Genital Wart Removal through Laser Surgery For the more severe cases of the medical problem, surgical intervention is normally recommended, especially in those instances where there is no positive response to specific medications. Laser surgery is also the recommended treatment option for pregnant women. An intense light beam is used to surgically remove the genital warts. Compared to other treatment options, laser surgery is the more expensive alternative. Genital Warts Removal through Freezing Cryotherapy is slowly becoming a popular treatment option for quite a number of doctors. This technique involves freezing of warts through the use of liquid nitrogen. This treatment leads to the formation of blisters around the genital warts and through the normal healing process, new skin is formed in the infected area. Surgery and Electrocautery Electrocautery and surgery are usually resorted to by doctors in cases where less invasive treatment options don’t produce good results. You may have to consider using the more invasive types of treatment options for the more advanced and severe types of the medical disorder.
