Queensland scientists have taken the initiative to develop a vaccine to counter the deadly disease that is transmitted among koalas through mating, at childbirth or even through disputes among the furry animals. Timms is excited about the prospects of the new vaccine as initial tests have shown positive responses among recipients living in koala sanctuaries. Further tests among koalas living in the wild will be initiated in April to determine the true effectiveness of the vaccine. The loss of habitat is another major menace to the koala populace. Quite recently, koalas scored a major victory versus property developers that threatened to encroach on their territory.
