In the August Newsletter I discussed different approaches to dieting and weight loss, and the fact that just reducing calories and exercising more will not be enough. This will give you temporary results and will not address the most important aspect of weight loss: your nutrition and metabolism. In September’s Newsletter I would like to continue the discussion about weight loss. You have to learn what your bad eating habits are and change them to new, healthier ones.rnEat for Quality! Your body needs nourishment from real nutrient-rich food, not over-processed nonfoods that are low or devoid in nutrients. Overweight usually means under-nutrition. A body craves nutrients. Even popping a multi-vitamin each day will not give you a full spectrum of nutrients; only whole food supplements and real nutritious foods will give your body adequate nutrition. Real foods and whole foods supplements contain complexes that act as synergists - they enhance action of each other, and you cannot get this from nonfoods, isolates from real foods or synthetic supplements. Real skinny foods are full of nutrients and satisfy you better, keeping you full longer. Fresh vegetables and fruits, whole grains, beans, eggs, lean meats and poultry, fish, nuts and seeds, and certified raw milk products benefit weight loss, weight maintenance and good health.rnNatural unrefined oils and natural fats are important for healthy weight loss. Omega-3 fatty acids, coconut oil, and conjugated linoleic acid ( in whole milk products) have been shown to aid in weight loss, general metabolism, and blood sugar metabolism. rnFor example, people who eat eggs for breakfast lost twice as much weight as people started their day with bagels. Eggs contain valuable nutrients- vitamin A, E, lecithin and protein. Eggs increase satiety, decrease hunger, and do not adversely affect the cardio-vascular system. Bagels are made from chemically treated flour, depleted in nutrients.rnThe big problem is that we like the food we are used to eating, but we can retrain our taste buds! Your genes may indicate how much proteins, carbohydrates and fats you need, but they do not dictate what you like or dislike. You learned to enjoy foods and nonfoods, so you can re-learn! For example, your sweet tooth may be curbed by eating fruit: people drawn to candy, ice-cream, and pastries also find fruit appealing. Eating more fruits and gradually weaning off refined sugar nonfoods will solve the problem. Fresh fruit juices are loaded with nutrients, but they have a lot of sugar, so it is better to dilute it with water. Vegetable juices are better since they are lower in sugar. Bottled and canned juices should be avoided since they are depleted in nutrients and acid forming and the can’s inner coating contains BPA-which is toxic.rnEating more raw foods (vegetables, fruits, raw milk products, nuts, seeds) can results in dramatic improvements in weight and health. Try to start each meal with fresh fruit, a vegetable salad or soup. Eating breakfast will help you to be lean, while skipping breakfast is associated with weight gain. rnReal foods not only satisfy your appetite, but also will change your biochemistry. Nutrient rich foods were found to change the composition of fat cells in overweight and obese people. Fat cells have remarkable adaptability and communication with other cells in the body. When they change their composition due to a change in diet from nonfood to real food, they change the metabolism in other cells in the body which result in weight loss and normalizing of metabolism, which in turn will lead to normalizing of blood sugar metabolism, decreasing markers for inflammation and stress. Your goal should be not just weight loss, but enjoying real nutritious food and health promotion. It is really a life-long lifestyle change. And since we all are different, an individual approach and an individual program will give you the best results. Such programs will take into consideration your genetic makeup: your DNA and all recommendations that will be made after genetic testing. Health promotion includes the right nutritious foods and elimination of foods that are offenders for you due to allergy or intolerance. Testing for food allergy (ALCAT test) and treatment of identified food is also important, as are identifying environmental allergies, prevention of specific illnesses that you have genetic predisposition for, stress management, appropriate exercise and adequate sleep that your genetic makeup is demanding.
