The most advanced magnetic flow meter comes with integrated meter verification and built in diagnostics, designed to help you manage the entire production process efficiently.

Magnetic Flow Meter Applications

The magnetic flow meter is used in a variety of industries such as waste water and water, pharmaceutical, chemical, food & beverages, etc. Magnetic flow meters are very easy to maintain since they do not have any moving parts. Hence, they are very reliable and accurate. These flow meters are also used to measure the flow volume for a variety of liquids. As the magnetic flow meter is available with different liners it is used predominantly in variety of sanitary applications and also for hygienic purposes. Further, the magnetic flow meter is also used for efficient handling of corrosive fluids.

There are many manufacturers who spend a lot of money on research and study in order to enhance the performance levels of their flow meters. Their quest to widen the application scope of magnetic flow meters has resulted in the introduction of smart wireless networks; meter self verification and other such features and diagnostics that make the installation and use of flow meters easier than before.

How Does the Magnetic Flow meter Work?

Well, the magnetic flow meter works on the operating principle that is based on the law of electromagnetic induction of Faraday. According to this principle a voltage can be induced into a conductor that is moving in a magnetic field. The magnitude of the voltage that is induced is directly proportional to the conductor’s velocity. In a magnetic flow meter, the fluid works as a conductor while the sensors that contain the electrodes detect the generated voltage. The transmitter inside the flow meter amplifies the voltage.

Magnetic Flow meter Performance

In order to ensure that the performance of the magnetic flow meter is accurate, make sure that the flow meter is grounded properly. It is quite common to see flow meters not grounded properly, particularly in new installations. This occurs because the unit is not referenced properly to the process. Improper grounding can also occur in existing installations too. For instance, corrosion due to the existing environmental conditions can cause immense damage to the electrical ground wiring. This enables the sensor electrodes to pick up the electrical noise, thereby affecting not just the signal to noise ratio but also the transmitter output stability.

It is important not to overlook any grounding issues as it can lead to major issues with the unit. Normally, the performance of a magnetic flow meter can be affected by three kinds of process noise that include 1/f noise, white noise and spike noise, thereby resulting in flow results that are inaccurate.

Final Thoughts

Today, most process driven industries face constant challenges to enhance their production levels without compromising on quality, that too with lesser manpower and costs. This is where an intelligent device like the magnetic flow meter can help by offering you top notch diagnostic capabilities. This can help in developing new and effective predictive and preventive maintenance strategies, thereby increasing the process up time of your plant.
