Learning How to Play Tennis: A Healthy Life Choice

There are hundreds of different sports to choose from, but how many of them can offer a full body workout? Tennis is unique because it can be played and enjoyed but such a wide variety of age and skill levels. Whether you have kids who are looking for their first sport, or are a retired senior looking to pick up a new hobby, learning how to play tennis can be a fun and healthy active. What makes tennis so attractive to all different types of people? There are different ways and reasons for which we play tennis. Some desire to be extremely competitive and will train for hours on end just too slightly improve their forehand. Other players are completely disinterested in such grueling training and prefer the social aspect of a good doubles match-up. It really doesn’t matter what type of player you want to be, there is always a format or league that can fit the style of play you desire. Tennis can offer the perfect outlet for stress after a hard day of work or school. What better way to blow off steam then picking up a tennis racquet? Playing sports and being active isn’t just about the physical activity. Maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle is all about including different activities in your life. While it’s true that tennis will physically help to work muscle groups like the legs, arms, and core, the biggest benefit is simply getting outside and getting some cardio. For beginners, learning how to play tennis can seem daunting. There is the requirement of a racquet, balls, and actually finding an available court to play on. Luckily, tennis is very different from a sport like golf. Beginners can take comfort in the fact that entry-level tennis racquets can be acquired for as little as ten dollars at a local sports store. Finding a court to play at can similarly be accomplished without a large cost. Tennis clubs and membership fees are simply not necessary when you’re first learning how to play tennis. Local parks are free, easy, and convenient opportunities for playing tennis with no extra charge. Scout out some good park courts near your area that aren’t too crowded during the times that you want to play. As you become more familiar with tennis, you can decide how far you really want to go with the sport. There are an endless amount of opportunities as far as competition is concerned. The United States Tennis Association, along with other similar organizations, offers leagues and tournaments for juniors, adults, and seniors. Serious competition isn’t for everyone though, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Playing a doubles match once a week with a group of friends can be the perfect amount and level of play for some players. Give tennis a chance. It is one of the few sports that can offer your body a comprehensive workout in a fun and exciting way. Most of all, once you’ve learned how to play tennis, it is a sport for life. No matter what your age or skill level, tennis will provide a healthy long-term sport for years to come.
