You don’t have to work in a city these days, though, to want to start a home business, whether part- or full-time. There are as many reasons a person wants to work from home as there are people who wish or choose to do so.

One big reason for many people is that couples with children find both parents need to work in order to just keep up with routine expenses, forget luxuries. A few years back, there was a television segment about such a couple. In order for a parent to always be with the children, the husband and wife had different work shifts. During the course of a week, they rarely saw each other. I don’t need to describe what the overall scenario looked and felt like, I’m certain you can get the picture—or, perhaps, you’re even living it. A financial specialist looked at their life and finances to assess how they could do better. She pointed out to the couple that because the wife was working, and was the one with the lesser pay plan and benefits, it was actually costing the couple $5,000+ a year for her to work. When the expert said this, the exhausted wife burst into tears...and who can blame her. The wife quit her job and opened a daycare center in their home.

The days of job security no longer exist. Trust that your full pension will be available when you retire from a lifetime dedicated to one company isn’t a guarantee either. Even those corporate leaders who might like to do things differently, may be constrained by stock- and shareholder profit requirements. The value of a symbiotic relationship between employees and corporations are often moved aside in order for more cost-effective hiring of workers in other locations where wages are less. Things change on a constant basis. Feeling self-empowered about your financial freedom doesn’t have to be a hope or a dream, it can be a reality.

A huge benefit for many who choose to work at home is that we are in the digital and electronic age. Though employees and corporations are turning to this more and more, some people simply want to work for themselves, whether pre- or post-retirement. If you have a computer, and even minimal skills such as know how to do emails, you can operate a business from home or anywhere your laptop computer is. The days of ordering, storing, and shipping products are merging into transactions being done online, and many items are digital downloads. Millions of people around the globe have home businesses as either an enhancement to income from a job or as their sole income (though for many, it’s actually “soul” income because they don’t face the fragmented lives such as the couple cited above). Some people do like the stimulation of a corporate or small business environment. And there’s definitely a need for what such businesses provide. Yet, when cost-cuts require workers to increase their workload, with or without increase in pay, not everyone wants to work that much or experience the impact on the balance of their lives as a whole.

Fortune smiled on me when I connected to a home business that met my ideals. It can be marketed internationally, is fully automated so the amount of effort on my part is minimal, and has an unbeatable compensation plan. As good as that is, a significant benefit is that I joined up as a member of a very special team dedicated to making start-up simple and success opportunities equal for everyone on our team. No competition, and always someone available to assist. You don’t always find such a safety-net in a job, much less a home business. Also, compared to costs to start a business that produces the income this one can, start-up is nominal.

Last year, nearly 4 million people looked at home business opportunities every month. This year, it’s nearly 14 million. Whatever the personal reason, people are looking to take back control of their lives and finances. If you’re a person who doesn’t mind working a bit, but prefer to do something you enjoy, part-time or full-time, a home business may be for you. Do your research. You can find the one that’s the best fit for you.

But if, on the contrary, you find you are living someone else’s life via trending, or depressed and distressed by

I have a new cell phone. I didn’t want a new cell phone; I was perfectly happy with my 2020 cell phone, but it wasn’t happy with me. Its connector charging port was ailing. Failing, actually, the service tech told me. And besides, it was an old phone, what did I expect? Old? This to a woman who is more than content, read “thrilled,” to wear outdated fashions just because she likes them. And would willingly keep computers way past their supposed “shelf life.” Sigh. OK, fine,
