A vasectomy is a surgical procedure that stops the flow of sperm from the testicles to the penis. There are several reasons a man would opt to have a vasectomy, the most popular is contraception. When a man or a couple decides that they do not want more children, the word vasectomy is typically commonplace in their conversations. It is considered a relatively minor procedure for a man to undergo, and much less invasive than the alternative for a women (a tubal ligation) when it comes to permanent contraception. A vasectomy can be performed right in a doctor's office with a local anesthetic and usually requires a small incision to be made on one or both sides of the scrotum (this is the sac below the penis that contain the testicles which produces sperm). At this point, the vas deferens (the small tube that carries sperm during ejaculation) can be permanently blocked, and the incisions are stitched (sutured) closed. Dr. Agarwal goes one step further in offering a NO-SCALPEL VASECTOMY. This procedure has been around since 1974 and was introduced in North America in 1985 very successfully. With this procedure, only one small opening is made by a puncture at the midline of the scrotum. Both vas are lifted out and blocked. At the end of the procedure, the vas are slipped back into the scrotum, and the opening is covered with a surgical bandage. No stitches are required. This decreases the healing time and significantly reduces pain and the risk of complications. If you would like to learn more about the No-Scalpel Vasectomy procedure or if you want to schedule a consultation with Dr. Agarwal to discuss your plans and options for a vasectomy, call his conveniently located, Midland Park, NJ office at 201-444-7070 or visit his website at www.agarwalrobotics.com.
