Once you have a nutrition education, you need to think about how you will make your living. There are many ways to choose from, between getting a job and working for yourself, of course depending on what type of education you have. The type of education you received will steer you toward one of two paths. If you have become a certified "Nutritional Consultant," your training is more holistic oriented. If you have received a degree you have perhaps become a registered "Nutritionist" or "Dietitian." A Clinical Nutritionist or Dietitian may find themselves employed with a larger corporation. Areas of work might include research studies, research organization and new food supplement development. Other areas of employment may be in hospitals or clinics providing clinical or medical nutritional consultations. These are all financially rewarding careers that can be fulfilling for many years to come. The Nutritional Counselor, is more likely trained in not only foods, but food and herbal supplements as well. Most are also knowledgeable in other holistic or alte ative modalities such as massage or colonic therapy. These people are usually self-employed as therapists in health centers, gyms or working in their own businesses. This is also very rewarding work as they work with clients or other therapists helping people to help themselves. Regardless of which career path you choose, in today's economy it is wise to take charge of your future. There will be many opportunities in front of you to expand your nutrition education, giving you the chance to increase your income. As time goes on, by gaining experience, you are given a unique perspective that is valuable to others. This experience is a valuable tool that you can use to write books, teach seminars or help more clients on an individual basis. This type of extra income can help you create or solidify your financial future or give you a secondary income. You can give yourself a better chance at guaranteeing your income by receiving education in both types of nutrition; holistic and clinical. Both sides are important aspects of health and can work together to benefit all clients, patients or even open the door in research. Clinical or scientific knowledge is important as food choices may lessen symptoms and in some cases even heal health issues in some clients. Food science is important if you or your company works with people who put higher demands on their bodies, such as sports professionals or other athletes. The Nutritional Counselor is also important. More people are turning to holistic health and nutrition as an alte ative to traditional Western medicine. We are now learning that a type of "cleansing diet" is beneficial as it takes less energy for the digestive process, leaving more energy for the healing process. It is also widely known that holistic practices such as food combining and elimination diets are very helpful for those with common gastrointestinal complaints. By learning both, you become forward thinking and open up more possibilities for yourself. Clients and patients alike are looking for those who are open minded when they want to take Echinacea because their antibiotic didn't work - and they don't want a bigger pill. Search out those extra classes. Read books and on-line about the many people affected by food choices. As Hippocrates once said, "Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food." Ensure that your good future is out there.
