Revolutions in technology have re-shaped our world. The way we communicate, how we get around, and a whole host of other things have been and are continuing to be improved. Just consider the way things were a mere 2 decades ago. Now think of all the things which have changed. It is rather remarkable. And because technology has touched every aspect of our lives, you can bet that it has changed the world of accounting. Talk to any bookkeeper and you will understand what has changed. Perhaps you may remember the way things were, slower and much less streamlined. Flash forward to today. New advances made since 1990 have completely revolutionized the way accounting is done. High-speed document scanning systems, document imaging software, integrated document management systems, Web-enabled ERP and stand-alone accounting systems, together with declining cost and greater availability of telecom connectivity have all emerged as critical. Putting all of these to use for your firm will give you an edge as the bookkeeper will be able to work while you sleep. Daily, weekly and monthly reports will be delivered on time without the stress. Now imagine how these solutions would work for your business if you had the right bookkeeper working for you. The operations would be streamlined, in a word efficient. However, if you would like to better understand how having that kind of bookkeeper would work, here are a few examples of the methods they would use. First using cloud based document scanning you would be able to instantly send over vital information and further use of electronic banking and statements would allow for a seamless integration of information. Second imagine the ease with which you will be able to get financial data. Rather than doing things the hard way, advanced software will allow for greater depth and breadth when you analyze your business. Coupled with the fact that you will have a highly knowledgeable group of accountants handling your needs, and it would be hard not to see the benefits of having a bookkeeper. While you may try to replicate what the bookkeeper uses and what other firms with large in house accountants, you will soon realize that the costs are much greater than can or perhaps should be borne by your business. Having an outside accountant will give you all of these technological benefits along with the experience of a well staffed team at only a fraction of the cost. Do not let the opportunity to use the best and latest technology slip by. The sooner you get started the sooner you will see the positive results.
