limescale is a certain type of layer that forms due to strong presence of calcium and magnesium ions in hard water. When we boil hard water above a temperature of 61°C, then the formation of lime scale takes place. You may well be aware of the fact that hard water does contain strong amount of magnesium and calcium ions. When these mineral ions precipitate out of the hard water, then limescale is formed. These can be removed through the help of special water softener devices. These devices help in dissolving or even softening the layers of mineral ions. The most common dissolving agent available in market is acid. They are great at dissolving these mineral scales. However, a lot of acids are quite hazardous and should be used with a lot of precaution. Those who are afraid of using acids need to contact professionals to continue with the task. There are also certain acids that can decolorize the chrome fittings and taps. For example: Hydrochloric acid. The safest bet is Acetic acid. It’s safe and is readily available within your refrigerator or kitchen. Don’t be surprised! It’s vinegar which is the diluted version of acetic acid. Most of the home kitchens and refrigerators do contain this item. How to prepare acetic acid from vinegar? The steps are very simple. Take a coffee mug; fill it half with water and half with white vinegar. Then, take the container where limescale formation has taken place. Say for example you want to remove scale from an electric kettle. Take the mixture and fill it inside the electric kettle. Start to boil the mixture and then afterwards, leave it for an overnight. Next day, rinse it out. You will find that the kettle has become cleaner with not a trace of lime scale inside it.
