There are many things that can be donated and given to a charitable organization. Many people tend to focus on the giving of cash or perhaps smaller items but it might come as a surprise to you that there are many larger items which can also be donated as well. Since this is not something that is generally considered, here is a list of some of the more popular items that are given in this way. If you have any of these laying around your home and would like to do something charitable, it is possible for you to give them as well. One of the first things that I should mention before I go into some of the specifics is that it is important for you to understand how to give these items properly. If you're going to be donating larger items, there may be a tax advantage for you. It is important for you to understand, however, that things need to be done properly in order for you to take full advantage of any tax breaks that you may get. This would include having all of the paperwork filled out properly as well as making sure that you don't overestimate the value of the items that you were donating. Typically, the charitable organization will be able to assist you in this regard. One of the items that is given to charitable organizations are computers. There are many different organizations that accept these but it is important to note, not all will do so. Some of the computers are going to be recycled for distribution among disadvantaged children or other individuals. At other times, the computers are going to be sold and the proceeds are going to be given to the charity. That is the case when you give it to Goodwill or the Salvation Army. Appliances are also something that can be given to charity but again, it is going to make a difference which charity you are using. You need to contact them in advance and make sure that they not only take the appliance but that they will be able to use the appliance that you are giving. Some of the charitable organizations are going to do some repairs to the appliances and then give them to people who are unable to afford them on their own. Like the computers, other organizations may sell these items and then give the proceeds to a charity. Giving vehicles is also something that can be done and this can perhaps have the greatest tax advantage for you. It is not only cars and trucks that can be given but also yacht donations and various smaller boat donations are popular in this regard. These are items that are typically sold and the proceeds are either given to a single charity or they are divided among multiple charities. You will need to contact the organization in advance to make sure that they are going to be able to take care of everything for you. With the right organization, it is going to be easy to give one of these larger items.
