Living a Life Transformed

Every activity in life can be used to move us deeper into the Truth or it can act to move us more deeply into our identity of separation from the One Life that is Truth. It comes down to our deepest motivation in each moment. Are we choosing to love the Truth or to give apparent life to the illusionary self, the negative ego? What is Truth, for that matter? Is the absolute Truth something that we can seek to put into words and in doing so, relegate Truth to the realm of belief; something conceived of in the mind, a thought-form, a conceptual identity, a created ‘thing.’ Words can only point the way; they can only approach The Truth. Thought – mental constructs – at best are merely an invitation to an experience of True Identity. So Truth is something to be experienced, but the moment we attempt to define it with our minds, we limit it; we put Truth in a box and we make it into less than it truly is. We have thus attempted to use the analytical tool that is our mind for something that is not in its job description. We have attempted to squeeze the vastness of True Identity into the confines of a creation – a thought formed in the mind – a thought form – a body of energy constructed in the mind. It is like trying to describe the life that permeates nature, which is the essence in nature - the living natural world - with a photograph. It is like trying to discuss Truth with the words in this article. The photograph is only a signpost pointing the way. The words only light a trail to a destination that is simply chosen in the moment and then it is discovered – within us - when we choose to allow this inner experience. These words, that photograph, at best are a portal, a pathway, an avenue to something that is experienced within each of us. I allude to a core essential presence that links us all, that connects and pervades all of existence, all life, all energy, all of creation.
Perhaps from the point of view of a somewhat limited understanding we might say, “I can look into the mirror and be self aware. I can pinch my arm and know I’m here. The smell of my skin tells me I exist, and the conclusions I draw give meaning to these experiences to tell me who I am.”
What is described here is what is referred to as ‘form awareness.’ It is as if to say, “I am aware of my form identity. I am a thing, a thinking, feeling organism that came into existence at its birth. It is what I observe of existence using the perception of my five senses that tells me who I am. I have evolved even beyond the highest order of animals, such as the chimpanzee, which is quite capable of recognizing its existence when it sees itself in a mirror. Chimps are self aware, but I am more than this. I have the ability to formulate statements of meaning as to who I am. I make judgments that provide the meaning that I assign to myself that makes me who I am. Is this what is meant by ‘awareness becoming aware of itself?’”
“Here’s an example to explain what I mean,” continues the mind in limitation. “When I look out into the world and observe the world I notice how unsafe it appears what with all the violence I see on the news. This explains why I feel so ill at ease. It’s because the world is such a dangerous place. The world is the cause for why I feel unsafe within me.” And so the ego takes it further asking “why am I treated this way by life, by the universe, by my source?” The unconscious meaning, the conclusion that is reached and then immediately repressed into unconsciousness is this: “Apparently I do not deserve to be treated with love by my creator. I am unworthy of loving acceptance just as I am.”
Perhaps we begin to ponder. “But is this really who I am or have I created this in my mind? Well, if ‘I’ created this identity with my mind, then I must be the creator of that identity! Who I am came before who I believe myself to be. I am lost in a misconception. I am identified with my creation, my concept of who I am, the conceptual form that is the thoughts of my mind; it is a form that I have added to and strengthed all the unconscious moments of this life. There is charge locked up in this identity – charged emotion that gives force to that identity, and I’ve assigned lots of meaning to all that emotion; I’m invested in what I’ve created and I live my life through the eyes of that creation. I view everything that happens thru that perception of who I am. Stuff happens to me; it’s all terribly personal because how I see life, how I see the moment in which I live my life, must continue to reinforce the identity that I’m so invested in. Why must I keep adding energy to this identity? Well, it’s simple really. I have to keep reinforcing this sense of self because if I don’t, it will cease to exist. If I don’t keep telling myself that this is real, if I don’t keep interpreting my moments in such a way as to give life to this identity, if I don’t do this, then I’ll begin to see it for what it is – my unconscious creation. And what will happen to this ‘me’ when I’m no longer invested in its perpetuation? Will I die?!”
So the mind struggles to grasp the concept that it may have created a false self. This activity is simply its way of going about the process of reorganizing the false identity in such a way that it is no longer threatened by this new information. This resistance is part of the mind generated identity. The mind can never be found mistaken in the conclusions that lend it apparent life, that give energy to this identity, because these delusions are the very structure of that identity. The conceptual self ruminates saying, “Here I am. This is me; I’m the one feeling very frustrated and irritated by my experience of this moment. I feel threatened. These words are pointing the way to my death (although I refuse to even consider that this is what I’m afraid of).
If you are still reading, you may notice intention deep within that is genuinely curious to explore the realms of experience to which these words are pointing? Let’s suspend our thinking - our struggle to make sense of, analyze, and assign meaning to - for just this moment and notice this curious awareness within. It’s not the thoughts and emotions ‘I’ have. It is simply the awareness of these thoughts as well as the emotions these thoughts inspire.
Let’s choose to align our intention with the intention of this awareness within us. Let’s simply allow a deepening of that alert presence by putting our attention there. Let’s go where it takes us, which means we’ll suspend our thinking for the moment. Take a deep cleansing breath. Close your eyes and observe the breath filling the lungs as you breathe deeply and easily into the abdomen. Watch the breath leaving you as you gently exhale. Relax and settle more comfortably into your seat. Let your attention focus there within the center of your chest where the breath flows in and out. Thoughts arise. Just let them go. Feelings come up. Simply experience them without attempting to assign them meaning. Let the mind rest as you continue to observe your breathing. Feel as you feel. If the mind jumps in with a judgment of this experience, simply return to observing your breathing.
Acknowledging a simple truth moves us forward: “I am not this experience. This is an experience that I am having within me. I acknowledge that I am the creator of my inner experience. I am the space in which that experience happens. I am that inner space of awareness. Since I choose how I feel, I simply choose to feel grateful.”
Gratitude is the key to empowerment. Where we’ve believed we were stuck, gratitude shows us that we are the chooser, the decider. Gratitude opens the door to letting go of what no longer serves us. It is the choice for judgment of what we bring into our lives that keeps us stuck in that inner experience. “This too shall pass.” The attitude embodied in these words is that of gratitude. When we are grateful for what we are feeling, we no longer give it the kind of meaning that supports a false identity, that supports our identification in it, which keeps us stuck in the energy of this disempowered sense of self. Gratitude embraces the knowing that I am free to go wherever I wish to go within me. There are no limitations to that experience in place now. Judgment is suspended. That activity of judgment that seeks to define as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ everything that is experienced is a chief activity of the separation oriented mind. It is this mind that seeks to determine if an experience enhances ‘me’ or diminishes ‘me.’ Only the false self can be diminished or enhanced. It is that sense of self that experiences threat of diminishment. Contraction happens when consciousness buys into that possibility. This lowering of vibration in consciousness is an experience that is created by thought, made apparent by thought. So judgmental thinking has a consequence. That consequence is experienced as suffering. What is judged as ‘good’ is wanted, needed, and pursued as compensation for the seemingly ‘bad’ stuff that is trapped within. Gratitude is a level of Truth Awareness that emanates from the identity of Being – ness. When we choose to experience gratitude, we usher in a frequency of vibration that raises the ‘life’ of the moment as experienced within. Belief gives way to knowing as our ‘inner space’ ascends in vibration, no longer weighing us down in a state of contraction – suffering. No longer so compelled to identify with this freezing effect upon our consciousness, we sense the possibilities for new experience within us. Turning away from our insistence upon judging with our mind, we are guided into a new choice. We have crossed over into the new life that is the experience of unconditional love and acceptance. Our inner world eases and expands and we discover a desire to let go of everything within us that hinders our forward momentum into a deepening of this experience. Releasing the energy of past experiences secreted away in our unconsciousness, we discover the magic of letting go. Harmony is the new consequence within. Unconsciousness is transcended and consciousness becomes aware of itself, within us and thru us. The Truth becomes evident as true identity restored.
Having felt the reality of these new potentials within ourselves, we are given the opportunity to learn how to manifest life experience on the outer that is a reflection of this new inner state that is Being – ness. We discover the willingness to act out our lives thru this reconnected-ness withi
Presence, this Source awareness, God within me. The decisions of our lives are no longer based upon a view of everything existing to serve perpetuation of our perceived identity – survival mentality. Rather than viewing self as the center around which creation revolves, we are now restored into oneness and unity, feeling re-connected within and part of all that is. Now there is a sense of flowing within the being-ness of the Universe, a sense of personal desire arising out of alignment with that all pervasive intelligence. “What I choose to do is a natural outpouring of the essence that flows within ‘me.’ The sense of alive-ness that courses into and through me I simply allow to radiate into and infuse each moment of my activity. What I do comes not out of seeking unconsciously to substantiate who I believe I am. What I do is simply a reflection of the Truth that I’ve been restored into, the Truth that I know, the Truth that I am within and part of the river of life that animates this form.”
Words cannot hope to adequately describe this Truth. They may at best inspire the undertaking of the journey into Truth. That journey awaits each of us, within us, in this now moment
