Attorney services cover a number of different services for attorneys and for the public. However, a key function for an attorney service is to do process service. This duty is to serve papers on those people who are summoned to appear in court. Process service is an interesting position, and one not only needs a clean record, but should also have an element of bravery about them. The server has to use surveillance in many cases, without alarming neighbors or the local police. In some situations, a process server can actually be put in danger on the job. For instance, one home had a vicious growling dog tied up in the front doorway. In another case, the person being served became angry and violent and held the server out the window threatening to drop him. This was an extreme case, but process servers must always be prepared.
