To lose weight by speeding up metabolism you first need to educate yourself on what exactly metabolism is. It is that engine in your body that burns calories (fuel) all day, every day. Before I begin to get more in depth, understand that is no easy task to lose weight and keep it off! Metabolism is where it all begins.

Some folks burn fat faster than others. The reason being is the genetic make up of the individual. But age, body weight, diet, and exercise habits also play a role. When people get older, their metabolism slows down. Usually this is because they are losing muscle mass every decade which begins in their mid-20s. What causes this loss of muscle mass is not just the natural aging process but also the decline in physical activity.

What exactly will this mean to you? The bad thing is that you will likely be burning a 100 fewer calories for each decade of aging. The good news is that there are some things you can do to stoke your fat burning. There really are ways you can hold onto your metabolism and even speed it up!

I have said it before that the worst thing you can do to lose weight is to overdo the cutting of calories from your diet. If you cut your calories suddenly, your metabolism is going to slow down! The human body and mind are an amazing thing. What happens is that your mind will tell your body it is staving therefore reserve your existing fat reserves. The human body will defend itself!

When eating carbohydrates, go for the good ones. Some of the best carbohydrates are fruits and vegetables and of course a small amount of grains. You don't want to partake in refined carbohydrates like white bread, cookies and cakes because it can, and will, increase fat storage.

Another mistake people make is sitting down and having large helpings of the wrong type of foods. Large amounts of any type however is the wrong way to eat. Eating five to six mini meals every 2 to 3 hours rather than 3 large meals is the way to go. During this holiday season try not stressing so much on gaining weight but enjoy yourself and your family. You can add an extra walk to your daily priorities for a month or two. After all long term lifestyle change is the key to weight loss.

Resting Metabolic Rate is the rate your body metabolizes your food intake when you are doing no more than sleeping or just what it implies, resting! Keep in mind that calories are no more than fuel that supply the energy for you to survive. If you are going to boost this rate you absolutely need to increase your muscle mass. I know this sounds tiring but it is necessary.

More than not, experts say that strength training is the best way to boost your resting metabolic rate. As I mentioned earlier, when you age your metabolism lowers. Strength training can rev this right back up again. Did you know that a pound of muscle will bu
9 times the amount of calories that fat will? Try looking into some strength training routines that fit you! You can get great results with only two 30 min sessions a week so why not look into this even if you feel it isn't for you!

In all that I have said, what is really at the center of it is lifestyle change. Change is probably the hardest thing for humans to do. As always I wish you the best in your weight loss goals.
