With obesity becoming such a widespread problem, everyone has to start taking steps in order to arrest the spread of this epidemic. An excellent way to promote a healthier lifestyle is the adoption of cleaner dietary habits. Eating clean simply refers to choosing natural, whole foods over processed junk food with little nutritional value. It has long been widely accepted that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It sets the tone for your morning and is responsible for refueling the body after its long 7-8 hour fast. Unfortunately, many people start their day on the wrong foot with overly processed breakfast cereals that are loaded with nothing but sugar. The first thing that people need to change if they want to start eating clean is their breakfast menus. There are much better choices out there for your first meal of the day. Here are three alternatives that are all delicious, filling and highly nutritious. Grains Real grains and cereals are an excellent picker-upper in the morning. Unlike the overly processed varieties that are flavored and shaped in all sorts of odd ways, things like grits, oatmeal and quinoa are mostly tasteless and bland. This is a good thing since you can easily flavor them however you want. You can choose to make them sweet with a splash of vanilla extract and brown sugar or savory with bacon bits and sea salt. They’re an excellent choice for those who only eat clean foods because of their high fiber content. Pancakes Pancakes are really a catchall term for any pan-cooked batter mixture. They’re a staple for people who only eat clean diet recipes because they’re so easily modifiable. Want them to be lower calorie? Use water instead of milk. Need more fiber? Add some oatmeal to the batter. Want more protein? A few scoops of protein powder can easily take care of that. Eggs Eggs have been maligned for many years. To this day we hear people telling us not to eat eggs or to leave the yolk on the plate. It’s actually one of the best things to add to the meal plans of those who eat clean foods. They’re high in protein and essential fatty acids. Cholesterol isn’t really an issue since research has proven that dietary cholesterol has no causal connection to blood cholesterol levels.
