At the time of writing it is now May 2012, which means that the summer is inching nearer and nearer. This may be depressing if you are currently overweight because the last thing you will feel like doing is walking along a beach in a bikini or swimsuit, for example. However you shouldn't despair because the summer is a great time to lose weight. At this time of the year we have longer days when the weather is largely dry and sunny, so there are lots of things we can be doing outside. The easiest way to try and lose weight is to simply start doing more walking. Walking has long been thought of as being a great way to clear your mind, but it is also a very enjoyable (and easy) exercise to do as well. You may not end up sweating at the end of it, but you will still be burning a decent amount of calories. If you have limited time outside work, then you could maybe think about walking to work or parking your car about one mile away from your workplace and walking to and from your job. Alternatively you could do 30 minutes of walking during your lunch hour, for example, or walk for 15 minutes, but at a much brisker pace to compensate for the shorter distance. The improved weather also means that you can go for long bicycle rides in the country without getting cold and wet, and you can also go running or enjoy taking part in various outdoor sports. All of which will help you burn calories and help you shed some of your excess weight. Another benefit about trying to lose weight in the summer is that you have a lot of summer fruits and vegetables to enjoy, all of which will help you enjoy a healthy, low calorie diet. Plus of course you will be glad to have cold meals such as salads because of the hotter weather, which will aid your weight loss efforts. If you can include plenty of these fruit and vegetables in your diet, and do lots of exercise at the same time (which is easy to do in the summer months), then you could easily hit your weight loss targets, particularly if you start trying to lose weight in May, for example, prior to the heart of summer in June, July and August. This will ensure that when the weather does start to get a lot better (or by the time you go on holiday), you may well have hit your weight loss goals already. So you can then start wearing your favourite beachwear with confidence, without being conscious about your body.
