Diarrhea in dogs will also result to loss of appetite. This is due to the sensitive state of the dog’s stomach causing it to reject any food. Loss of appetite due to dog diarrhea is also an indication of another problem in your dog that needs to be treated.

1. Bacterial and Viral Infection

When your dog is free to scavenge it could end up eating something highly infested with bad bacteria. This will cause upset stomach that leads to diarrhea and appetite loss. Loss of appetite due to dog diarrhea caused by microbes are very common.The usual treatment is to let your dog fast until its stomach is adjusted to take bland food. You will also need to check for vomiting as this is also another result of the infection.

2. Ingesting Toxins

Bad bacteria are not the only things your dog can get from scavenging. Loss of appetite due to diarrhea that was caused by toxins are also common. Toxic substances are also the possible culprit for diarrhea with appetite loss because these things can severely upset your dog’s stomach. You may need to rush your dog to a veterinarian if you have no idea what type of toxin it ingested.

3. Foreign Objects

Intestinal obstruction could occur if your dog swallowed something it could not digest like wood, metal or plastic. Pain in the abdominal area is the symptom that can tell you that your dog did swallowed something that it did not digest. Bring your dog to an animal clinic for surgery immediately if this is the case. Complications could occur like tearing of the internal tissues which will then result to internal bleeding. Puncturing of the stomach may occur which could lead to death.

4. Gastrointestinal Disease

Diarrhea and appetite loss maybe symptoms of another disease. You can verify this if the common remedies for diarrhea does not stop it after a week or two. Loss of appetite due to diarrhea that is cause by intestinal diseases will need to be inspected by a veterinarian as your dog may need powerful antibiotics for them.

Loss of appetite due to dog diarrhea maybe common but could also be an indication of more severe illness in your dog. If your dog have experience the above causes then you know now that prevention is way better than the remedies. Keep your dog in check to keep it away from diarrhea.
