One of the natural occurring mineral in the body is the sodium. This mineral helps regulate the fluid balance of the cells and plasma through soaking up the water, keeping the fluid in the blood and body tissues. It is also a big factor on how to lose belly fat. Thus, it is essential to have a proper balance of sodium in the diet. Low levels of sodium within the body may result in the body’s cells being unable to uphold enough water, leading to dehydration. On the contrary, too much sodium inside the body may result in swelling or edema, shortness of breath, and may contribute to high blood pressure or hypertension. Reducing the amount of sodium in the diet can contribute in reducing the buildup of excess fluid inside the body. Therefore, reduction of excess fluid in the tissues will reduce the amount of blood that the heart has to pump. Why is it important to regulate sodium intake? Healthy individuals must not try to devour an excessive amount of sodium to prevent putting undue stress to the heart, thus maintaining a lower blood pressure. Low sodium diet can lower down blood pressure to most individuals. Also, individuals taking diuretics should maintain a low sodium diet in order to facilitate better action of the medication. Other medical conditions that can be alleviated following the low-sodium diet include migraine headaches, asthma, gastritis, ulcers, Meniere’s disease, bone loss, and kidney stones. The allowable daily intake of sodium is only half of a gram, and it should not exceed more than 2.3 grams in a day. Low sodium diet and its indication Low sodium diet is an eating plan that contains no more than 1.5 grams to 2.4 grams of sodium in a day. Individuals who perform vigorous or moderate exercise are often advised to limit their sodium intake to 9 grams every day, while those who experience moderate to severe heart failure are usually advised to limit their intake of sodium to two grams in a day. This eating plan is often indicated to individuals with hypertension. Another beneficial effect of low sodium diet is that it prevents the development of any heart diseases. At present, there has been too much publicity regarding the amount of salt intake. The Dash Diet, a product of low sodium diet, is considered to be the most effective diets in lowering sodium intake and blood pressure.
