Synonyms of luck are assistance, blessing, fluke, fortunateness, godsend, good luck, kismet, windfall etc. It is believed that luck is a derivation of the Sanskrit word "Lakshmi". She is the original "Lady Luck" - a Hindu Devi of Money & Fortune.

In a natal horoscope the 9th house is harmonious for fortunateness or luck. It is stated that propitiation of the deity represented by 9th lord helps in the expansion of fortune. Luck makes anything that one receives by "chance". We invariably talk of "good luck" or "bad luck". In Hindi, the similar word for Luck is "Bhagya". The other similar of "Bhagya" may be fate and destiny. But, we never pronounce good fate or bad fate. Destiny is also not used in that way. In consequence, a feeling of fluke or fortunateness is regularly teamed with luck.

The Hindu view of luck is different. In Hinduism every living being has a soul and according to the Bhagwat Gita, this soul never dies. It reincarnates and takes rebirth. While living in one birth, the soul indulges in good and bad karmas (deeds). The reincarnation of the soul in the subsequent birth is determined by the quality and load of karmas of his previous birth. The following quote from Mahabharata is relevant:-

If a man is born in the family that is superrich, he is thought of to be lucky and if he is born in the family of a beggar he will be intended unlucky.

Or is luck just a few relevant slices of circumstances that match up into an opportunity, one that if in another frame of mind at the time wouldn't be taken into account. Or would it?

OPPORTUNITY
Would an opportunity be misread for good luck? I feel an opportunity is continually and can only be for the good and betterment of something. I've never seen a so called "opportunity" be unlucky if taken. I also believe that there are opportunites at our feet every moment of every single day and if you are aware of opportunites they dart up fast and furious. But one thing I have experienced if you finish accepting or taking advantage of opportunities they seem to dry up, it's sort of an universal law I guess.
