About LumiganrnLumigan is the drug which is marketed by Allergan, which is one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies. It is Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved drug for glaucoma. (glaucoma is the medical condition, in which there is an increase in the pressure inside the eye thereby affecting the nerve of the eye and decreasing vision). The active Pharmaceutical ingredient within Lumigan is bimatoprost. The bimatoprost works for increasing the growth and length of the eyelashes. There is another brand containing the same drug bimatoprost known as Latisse. This is also marketed by Allergan and the drug is FDA has approved for the use of the growth of eyelashes.rnHow will Lumigan work and why not to use?rnAs Lumigan contains the bimatoprost, it will be working for the growth of eyelashes. But remember that the applicator which was standardized in clinical trials, will be available only with the package of Latisse and not with Lumigan (Clinical trials are researches, which are must to be carried out in order to get a drug approved for the indication). The doctor will generally not prescribe Lumigan for growth of eyelashes, as it is not legally right and the cost which is incurred by prescribing Lumigan for the growth of eyelashes will not be reimbursable by means of insurance (this is because the growth of eyelashes is not a valid indication)rnAbout eyelashesrnEyelashes are a sense of pride and beauty to a lot of people, including both males and females. Females especially have eyelashes close to their hearts, as eyelashes increase the beauty of the face. A female with the beautiful eyelashes, attract everyone towards her.rnWhat is the principle behind the effect seen with LumiganrnBimatoprost is a prostaglandin analogue. Though the exact mechanism of action for the growth of eyelashes is not known, it has been scientifically proved to be the most effective drug. Even though Lumigan is not approved drug for the growth of eyelashes, since it contains the bimatoprost, it will be working fine as Latisse. The general application of the drug is by placing a drop of the eye drop at the tip of the applicator and then placing the loaded applicator, at the base of the skin of the eyelashes. This is to be applied only once a day and preferably at night.rnWhat is our advice?rnIt is advisable to use Latisse for the growth of eyelashes rather than Lumigan. Latisse is the drug which is FDA approved for the indication of the growth of eyelashes. On the continuous application of Latisse, you will be noticing an increase in the growth of both length and the density of the eyelashes. Even the growth of the eyebrows will be seen (if the same applicator is applied and rubbed over the eyebrows)rnThe drug as such is very well tolerated and side effects of the drug are rare. Some of the commonly reported effects like change in the color of the eye are very rarely seen.
