Resolutions Year 2006
Topic: Goal SettingFeaturing Lynne DeanPublished January 1, 2006
Do you believe in New Year’s resolutions? nnDo you think it’s just another commercialization? nnJust a lucrative time for businesses? n Well, maybe.nnnHowever, resolutions are good. New Year’s is a great time to look back on your life and think about future endeavors.nnnBetween you and me, you don’t have to spend thousands of dollars on membership fees to lose the weight or buy products to make you feel better or look better. It starts from the inside.nnnSo you already know your resolutions?nnHow are you going to keep them?nOne thing I noticed we often do is give it all we can for the first month or two… then the resolutions slowly slip into oblivion. We’ll excuse it ourselves by saying: "Let’s face it; this particular resolution was unachievable, unreachable, and unreasonable." WRONG.nnn"Character is the ability to carry out a good resolution long after the excitement of the moment has passed." -Cavett Robert nnnA New Year’s resolution is a goal. You must revisit it and renew it if necessary. And you need to have your resolution clearly defined.nn
- Write them downnn
- Write them in a special notebooknn
- Write and post them. nnThis way they won’t get lost in oblivion.nnnAnother way is to tell your friends and relatives. This, though, could be a dangerous path. By telling a lot of people you will be compelled to reach it, however if you don’t reach it when you said you would, you won’t feel too proud around your friends and family. Watch for that one.nnnYour resolutions are doable. What if they stretch over 6 months or a year? Resolutions are great. Use them, embrace them, and go wild. Break them down into manageable actions. Just do them.nnnI wish you all a peaceful and meaningful 2006.nnnLynne Deannwww.motivationalcentral.comnn===================================nnn"In truth there is no such thing in man's nature as a settled and full resolve either for good or evil, except at the very moment of execution." -Nathaniel Hawthornenn"Either I will find a way, or I will make one." -Philip Sidneynnn"Resolve to perform what you ought; perform without fail what you resolve." -Benjamin Franklinnnn"Now there are more overweight people in America than average-weight people. So overweight people are now average. Which means you've met your New Year's resolution." -Jay Leno n

The Power Of Short Term Goals
I have studied high achievers for 25 years, including 23 as a television news reporter. Time and time again I saw the power of goal setting, especially short term goals. Nick Missos was a Warsaw, Indiana 9th grader who wanted to be on the wrestling team. He had two things going against him: he was very weak, and he wa…
