Regarded as one of the most luxurious luxury trains in the world, Maharajas Express offers an opulent extravaganza to the guests on board its interiors reminiscent of the royalty and pomp in which the maharajas of a bygone era used to travel. Maharajas Express embarked on its maiden voyage in year 2010 and was touted to be the India’s answer to the revered Orient Express. So has the train lived up to its reputation and hype? As the statistics shows the luxury train traveling in India has certainly arrived with the introduction of Maharajas Express. This train is literally a 5 star hotel on wheels. Equipped with modern amenities such as Wi-Fi internet, LCD TVs, direct dial phones and en-suite bathrooms, this regal train redefine the art of elegant travelling.
The train offers three distinct itineraries to cater to the taste of different guests. One such itinerary offered to the guests is ‘Royal India’. Spanning across 7 days and 6 nights, Royal India tour charts the fascinating terrains and landmarks in India across destinations which include Delhi, Agra, Ranthambore, Jaipur, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Vadodara and Mumbai.
The train chugs off from the national capital of the country, Delhi. A traditional Indian welcome greets you at Safdarjung Railway Station as you gear up to embark on a travelling extravaganza. The first stop of the train is Agra. In Agra, you can explore various remarkable monuments like Agra Fort and Taj Mahal, which are designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. rnFrom Agra, the train chugs off to take you to the wild terrains of Ranthambore National Parl located in Sawai Madhopur. Ranthambore is a fascinating wildlife sanctuary with amazing diversity of flora and fauna and one of the best places in India to spot tigers.
The next halt of this enchanting royal sojourn is the ‘Pink City’ Jaipur. A visit to resplendent Amber fort with a traditional Elephant ride is in the store for the guests. Made of white marble and red stone, the impregnable fortress of Amber used to be the abode of the Maharajas of Jaipur before they moved their residence to Jaipur. Spectacular Sheesh Mahal and intricate carvings are a sight to behold in this majestic landmark. Later an Elephant Polo is arranged for the entertainment of the guest before retiring to dinner on board the train.
Next day guests will wake up to find themselves in the desert city of Bikaner, a gateway to the undulating sand dunes of Thar Desert. After a leisurely breakfast on board, you will be taken to explore the Lalgarh Palace and Museum and Karni Mata temple. Also included in the off-train excursion is a visit to the mighty Junagarh Fort and camel safari in the mystical deserts dunes.. Traditional performances of the Kalbeliyas and Langaas along with a glass of champagne in your hand are arranged to acquaint the guests with the culture and colors of Rajasthan. It is from here that inspiring ‘Latcho Drom’ journey of the Romani people’s began in a bygone era.
A jeep safari across the Bishnoi village awaits you on the 4th day of your journey which begins on a new day and a new destination Jodhpur. Bishnoi people are considered to be the oldest living environmentalists in the world. Fondly referred to as the ‘Blue City’, Jodhpur is a popular destination in India when it comes to foreign tourists. Jodhpur is the place to get a peek into the eclectic mélange of colors and culture of Rajasthan. This medieval city was the part of a vital trade route and abounds with magnificent landmarks which are fine specimen of the Rajput architecture. Excursion in Jodhpur includes a visit to the mighty Mehrangarh Fort and Old Bazaars. A barbecue is also arranged for the guests in the precincts of the Mehrangarh fort.
Day 5th of your journey will take you to the ‘Venice of East’, Udaipur. There are a number of breathtaking forts and palaces to keep you busy in this city of lakes. On the 6th day, visit the Jambhughoda Palace in Vadodara where you will get an opportunity to acquaint yourself with the royal family during lunch. Later go on to explore Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, which is recognized as a World Heritage Site. A trip to Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum is also in the offing and then, the Laxmi Vilas Palace welcomes you at the tea and evening snacks. Enjoy the last night on board the train as much as you can.
