Heart failure is a serious condition, and one that can easily lead to poor health or even death if it is not recognized early and treated properly. If you experience heart failure , receiving quick treatment can greatly increase your chances of making a full recovery. Unfortunately, many people do not know the main heart failure symptoms, and thus they may not know when they are experiencing this severe condition. Educating yourself about the symptoms and indications of heart failure is vital, especially if you are at risk due to old age, high cholesterol, obesity or smoking. Main Heart Failure Symptoms to Watch For Many cases of heart failure are chronic, meaning that they are ongoing, and that the heart does not beat in proper rhythm from time to time. If you are experiencing chronic heart failure, you may not even take note of the complications. One of the strongest indications of heart failure is shortness of breath, even during minimal movement. Shortness in breath from walking a short distance or even while you are in rest may indicate that your heart is stressed and unable to regulate normal blood flow. You may also feel extreme fatigue and weakness, especially later in the day. If your heart feels as though it is beating quickly or contracting irregularly, this may also indicate chronic heart failure. You may also notice swelling or edema in your legs, ankles or abdomen as your heart fails to keep up with the demands of circulation and fluids begin to build up throughout the body. This fluid retention may result in a noticeable weight gain. If you experience any of these symptoms, seek medical attention from a qualified doctor as soon as possible. The sooner you visit a qualified physician, the better the chances that your heart condition will not mature and will be treatable. Signs of an Acute Case of Heart Failure The main symptoms associated with an acute case of heart failure, are a little different from those of a chronic case. Acute heart failure means that symptoms have started suddenly without any pre warnings. If you are experiencing acute heart failure, you may notice the same symptoms as are described above, but they may seem more severe and are more likely to prompt you to seek medical attention. You are also likely to experience chest pain and abrupt shortness of breath. You may have a cough and may cough up bloody phlegm or mucus that is pink in color. These heart failure symptoms are definitely a sign that it is time to see a physician specialized in heart care. Heart failure is treatable condition in many cases, but prognosis is much better when you receive treatment right away. If you know anyone who is at risk, make sure that they are aware of the common symptoms, too. Your health is a terrible thing to waste, so make sure to listen to the signs your body creates and know how to associate them with heart failure.
