How do you normally feel about yourself? This is an issue that lingers in our minds most of the time. It is very important that we have a healthy body image of our selves as it determines our self acceptance, self confidence, self growth and the attitude that we have towards life in general.
Having a healthy body image ensures that you lead a good quality and happier life. People with poor body image tend to develop mood and eating disorders. Your body image means the perception you have of yourself, irrespective of what the perceptions of others may be. This means that one may have a great looking body but fail to perceive it that way and instead feel ugly and unattractive and that would mean a poor body image. Someone with a good body image feels great about how they look even though others may not.
Having a poor body image is quite unhealthy and tends to affect you in various ways. When you fail to accept yourself, you find it difficult becoming happy as you are down most of the time. The poor body image can lead to several emotional and mental problems such as anxiety, eating disorders and depression. It makes one feel less than adequate and does not fit or belong, a feeling of low esteem. This affects one on issues to do with intimacy and therefore affecting interpersonal relationships. When these feelings are extreme, they can lead one to commit suicide.
Having a good body image on the other hand means that you feel great about how you are and this gives one self confidence and self acceptance. It means having reasonable expectations about oneself and the realization that no one is perfect. It therefore means that one will not go to great heights in trying to change their appearance. People with good body images are usually more mentally and emotionally stable and this ensures those more self esteem, self confidence and self awareness. They therefore enjoy better health and better relationships too.
