In this world of fitness fanatics and pressure from health authorities to stay healthy it is somewhat surprising that the majority of people don’t think more about their eye health. Perhaps if it were more widely known that the eye is the most complex organ in the body after the brain, more effort would be made to ensure the eyes were properly cared for. A lot of this recent extra pressure to maintain a healthy, balanced lifestyle has come from the rising technological culture we have today, with computer users being increasingly younger and resulting in a larger number of reported people requiring some form of eyewear assistance. Thankfully no discernable proof has ever been found that computer usage causes eye damage. However, computer users do often complain of eye related symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, dry eyes, and difficulty focusing. There is no denying that eye strain caused by the environment in which people use their computers, is a common factor for the rise in the need for prescription glasses. Preventing eye strain Eye strain can lead to blurry vision, short-sightedness and headaches amongst other symptoms, so it is well worth taking a trip to the opticians for a regular eye examination to see if prescription lenses are needed. With eyewear now becoming much more affordable, and with a range of fashionable glasses frames, there is much less stigma. You can still look good while maintaining healthy vision. Choosing the right glasses for you If you find you need glasses, there is still the matter of choosing the right glasses that suit you. The strength of the lenses is decided by your optician, but the fashion aspect is an important choice. Due to the variety of different face shapes and personal tastes, a wide range of fashionable and designer eyewear is now available to the general public. There has never been a better time to have prescription glasses; it can be a great way of expressing your personality through the glasses frames you decide on. Apart from the standard clear prescription lenses available, there are also photosensitive lenses you can buy which detect bright light and automatically adjust to create the best local environment for your eyesight and provide 100% UV protection. Many glasses frames are now designed not only for their aesthetic qualities but also for convenience and functionality and as such eyewear comes in a range of sizes and materials as well as useful features like flex hinges and bifocal capabilities. Eating for your eyes It is worth thinking about ways to take care of your eyes within your daily routine. Introducing plenty of vegetables into your diet is a great way to ensure your eyes get the natural vitamins that are essential for the prevention of macular degeneration.
