Now that every convenience known to man is available with the help of technology, it is much easier to fall into the trap of leading a sedentary lifestyle. Instead of climbing a couple of flights of stairs, you use the elevator.

Instead of getting up from the couch to change the channel while watching television, you use the remote. Rather than walking a few blocks when you need to get to work, you take a cab or drive your car instead. It is much easier to find an excuse not to exercise because of these things which are readily available.

However, if you want to veer away from such a physically inactive existence, having a healthy eating diet and getting regular exercise is a must. It may sound easier said than done, and you may find excuses to put it off. But sooner or later, you would have to do it if you would not like your health to suffer in the long run.

How to Get a Head Start in Your Healthy Eating Diet and Exercise Program

Healthy diet and exercise are the key points to living a generally healthy lifestyle. Even if you do not have excess pounds to shed, being thin but inactive may also lead you to have health problems.

The key is to create a balance between having a healthy diet, getting a head start on a good exercise program – and you will be on your way towards leading a non-sedentary lifestyle.

Here are a few tips on how you can have an excellent healthy eating diet program:
• Keep a food journal.
It doesn’t matter whether you are using the good old pen-and-paper routine or if you are using an online tool to track the calories of the food that you are eating. A food journal helps you keep a close watch on your diet.

With this, you can check whether you are including an item from each essential food group. It controls your urge to have unnecessary cravings, and the mere activity of keeping a food journal will teach you the responsibility of having healthier eating habits.
• Know what you should avoid.
Anything taken in excess may actually be bad for your health. Moderate your alcohol consumption. When cooking, reduce the salt, fats, preservatives and artificial colouring in your meals. See to it that your sugar consumption and carbs consumption is just enough.

• Know which foods you should eat more.
As you may already know, fruits and vegetables should be consumed daily. Drink healthy beverages such as fresh fruit juices and green tea – instead of coffee, cola or sugar-based drinks.

Exercising Tips

Now that you have a healthy eating plan, the next thing that you should do is to have a good exercise plan. You do not even need to hire a personal trainer for this.

Start with brisk walking, jogging, a round of tennis or badminton, swimming – any sport that you enjoy, which will work out all your muscles is the best way to go. It’s even better if you can have a friend along with you while doing these physically strenuous activities, it will be fun and beneficial for you both!

At the end of the day, what you need to do to have a healthy eating diet and a good exercise program is to actually make it happen. It all starts with your determination: if you decide that you would like to lead a healthier lifestyle, then what else is preventing you from doing so? Follow these tips and be on your way towards a healthier and better version of you.
