Answering these questions can really help you achieve your goal because then you are crystal clear about what you’re trying to do. What does it mean for you to “get healthy”? Does it mean to lose 40 pounds? Does it mean to be able to play tag with your kids without getting winded? Does it mean you’ll transform your eating habits? Does it mean that you’ll complete a triathlon? Become familiar with exactly what you want and list out each detail from what you want to look like to how you want to feel. Another key component is to have a reason WHY you’re setting this goal. If you want to complete a sprint triathlon and lose 20 lbs, then you need to explore why that’s important to you. Maybe you want to meet new people or gain confidence or challenge yourself. Maybe you want to lower your cholesterol and have fewer medical problems. Whatever your reason, make sure it resonates and is important to you. Having a WHY will help you perservere and you will have more success reaching your goal if it is meaningful and important to you. Along the way, you may be tempted to quit, but if your “why” is strong enough, then it can help pull you through the rough patch and inspire you to keep going.
