Getting pregnant is a challenge for many couples. In fact, it is estimated that 10 to 15 percent of couples struggle with infertility. This can be frustrating to deal with, but the good news is that there are many things that you can do in order to boost your chances of conceiving.

Keep Your Stress Level Under Control

Stress can make it difficult for you to conceive. There was a study done in 2012 that involved 401 couples who were trying to conceive. The results of the study showed that the subjects who had the highest levels of alpha-amylase, which is a stress biomarker, were 29 percent less likely to conceive. There are many things that you can do in order to keep your stress under control. You can exercise and practice meditation to lower your stress level.

Use Ovulation Predictor Kits

You are most likely to conceive a day or two before you ovulate. Most women ovulate during the middle of their cycle. You can use an ovulation predictor kit in order to determine when you are about to ovulate. These tests detect the luteinizing hormone, or LH, surge. LH is the hormone that triggers ovulation.

Review Your Medications

Certain medications can make it more difficult for you to conceive. Certain antibiotics can make it harder for you to conceive. Antibiotics can cause yeast infections. This can make the cervical mucus more hostile to sperm. Antidepressants can also increase the risk of infertility. Not only do they decrease libido, but they can also suppress ovulation. If you think that your medications are making it difficult for you to conceive, then you will need to consult with your physician.

Egg Donors

If you still struggle to conceive after making changes in your lifestyle, then you may want to consider getting an egg donor through a service like the Missouri Center for Reproductive Medicine or a similar fertility clinic. The egg will be fertilized using the sperm from your partner or sperm donor. After the egg is fertilized, it will be implanted into your uterus. This is a process that is also known as in vitro fertilization. The success rate of in vitro fertilization can vary. Your age and overall health will determine the success rate of this procedure. Dealing with infertility can be difficult. Fortunately, keeping your stress under control, using ovulation prediction kits and checking your medications can help you conceive. You can also use an egg donor if you still struggle to conceive.
