Moving house can be a stressful time but there's things you can do to make it that little bit easier. Before you start your move you need to consider what you need to take with you, whether you can leave anything behind and what will need careful packing out of the things that you wish to take. First of all start off by making a list of the top priority thing that you need to take. It's a good idea to have a good clear out of the things that you don't want/need any more, a couple of ways to do this is to either take things to the local charity shop or hold a car boot sale. If you make any money from this you could even put it towards decorating or something new for your new house. Purchase your cardboard boxes and any other things you will need to pack such as bubble wrap and strong tape well in advance so that you don't have to rush about to find them at the last minute. You will probably need boxes of various different sizes for different things, make sure you don't fill the large boxes up completely as they will be too heavy to carry. Check that your content insurance will cover any damage done to your belongings during the move, the last thing that anyone needs at this time is the stress of finding out they're no longer covered. You should pack all hazardous materials such as bleach and aerosols into a separate box to ensure that they don't leak onto any of your other things. Take time to consider how you're going to pack your items. Some things may be heavy, some things will have to be extremely carefully packed and other may even have to be dismantled. Pacing always takes longer than it's planned to so you're best starting sooner rather than later. A good way to pack it starting from the top of the house and working downwards. Label each box clearly with the room it it going and pack any breakables separately. Delicate items should be wrapped in bubble wrap and placed in boxes that have been layered with several layers of newspaper. Make sure the top layer is plain paper or wrapping paper to avoid the newspaper printing onto things. These should also be labelled so that you know to be extra careful with them when it comes to moving them. Keep the weight of any one box to a minimum to keep it easier for you and help to prevent any injuries whilst moving them. Most people don't have time to unpack everything on their first day so it's worth packing everything that you will need together, that way the things that you will need will be easy to find. The easiest way to do this is; Pack a box with essentials in such as a kettle, tea, coffee, snacks, mugs etc. These will be nice when you first arrive and pack an overnight bag for the whole of your family, including nightwear and toiletries. It's also a good idea to pack a torch, a first aid kit and small tool kit in either this bag or box. Hopefully if you're planning on a move then these tips will have helped you out a little.
