This is really very threatening but true that one out of every eight women is at the risk of breast cancer development. Although it is difficult to prevent this cancer from occurrence, but once it is detected earlier you can beat it with better treatment options. Early detection is a thing that a doctor wants to ensure so that treatment can prove successful in increasing life years. And to detect this cancer earlier women are asked to regularly undergo a mammogram test at least every year for women above fifty and after every three years for women in premenopausal phase. A mammogram is an x-ray of breasts. It is the breast screening test considered as a milestone in detecting breast cancer at earliest stage. This test is performed by a radiographer by using an x-ray machine. Your each breast is placed between two plates and then by compressing your breast in those plates x-ray of breast is taken. Although this breast compression is somehow painful, but it helps in printing a clear picture of breast showing everything inside breast. A two view mammography, one from side and one from above of breast, of each breast is very helpful in examining breast from all sides and in picking up any abnormality. Many women find a mammogram test painful and avoid this test. It surely causes pain when breasts are compressed between plates but this pain remains only for the time of compression. Ductal carcinoma in situ DCIS is the cancer type that is immediately caught by a mammogram test. This cancer occurs in the lining called ducts for transportation of milk to nipples. It is non invasive type of breast cancer but can spread and become invasive if not detected earlier. After having a mammogram if any abnormality is found you are further asked to undergo breast tests to locate cancer and its stage. It becomes very easy and supportive if cancer is located and its stage is understood. Mammogram is found more efficient way of breast screening for the women above forty but among women blow this age it has not proved much effective because it is difficult for mammogram to work with dense breasts because it does not show much reliable results in case of dense breasts. Once breast cancer is detected and its stage is understood the next most important decision is of selecting available treatment methods. At first surgery is performed that has also different types depending upon the type of cancer tumor. If breast cancer is non invasive and is within the tissue where started first then under surgery only that victimized part is removed. Nonetheless, if whole cancer has invaded whole of the breast then lumpectomy is performed that refers to the thorough removal of breast. It is done so that the cancer may not destroy other body organs. Breast cancer awareness is of great importance to diagnose this disease at its most early stage. breast cancer awareness is not only about getting familiar with signs of this disease but it also helps you to know where to report if any abnormality is found and what are different screening options for early diagnosis.
