Single parents have it difficult in life as they need to juggle their time and effort between home commitments and their jobs. As the only breadwinner in the family, a single parent may encounter hard times in meeting the needs of their family especially if young children are involved. Hence, it is essential to generate many grants for single parents in assisting them with sufficient financial resources for a comfortable and satisfying lifestyle that would give them time to meet their children’s needs.
Need based

There are many grants available in every nation that focus on assisting single parents. Some of these financial opportunities are on a need basis which may not be publicly known to all and sundry. The financial assistance based on needs of single parents may come from the government, local municipals, NGOs and established companies as well as philanthropists.

Single parents can be single fathers or single mothers parenting one or more children on their own without assistance from any relative or friend. Some of the needs which single parents can forward to the relevant financial authorities would be the education needs of their children. There are education grants which allow their children to continue their education to college level.

Single parents can also apply for these education grants for themselves if they wish to upgrade their education and qualifications in the hope of securing better paying jobs to provide for their family.

Further studies for a single parent can be challenging as one needs to juggle between work and family commitments as well as studies. Study grants would allow single parents to take up a short vocational or professional course on a part time basis which is usually conducted in the evenings, over the weekends or on public holidays. Hence, the single parents must be sacrificial in their available time to attend classes or find a course that would be more suitable to their time factor and learning ability.

There is a myriad of education grants in the nation offered by various parties. Many local colleges and universities are participating in the single parents’ grant programs as part of their effort and contribution to society.

Single parents who wish to pursue their career with a better qualification can consult the Education ministry or the preferred learning institution to enquire more about the availability and quantum of the grant. Single parents can also apply at FAFSA for an education grant review as there is a myriad of education grants that can be awarded to qualified and needy single parents.
