While you do not have to have a website to make online money, the most successful Internet marketers do have one or more. If you want to have a presence on the Internet it can be hard to do that without having a website. Usually the tools most people use go hand in hand: blogging, to let people know about your service or product; a website to display your product or service in more detail and to provide an opportunity for people to buy; promotional activities such as article writing, social networking or paid advertising. Build your Internet presence There are ways of building your presence on the Internet without building your own website. You can use some well-known sites that do not require you to know computer language or "computer speak", that is HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language), which is the language used to build websites. In other words, any novice can start writing in plain English and build a body of information - and they cost you nothing. The best part about these sites is they can look like websites and you can become skilled at using them in a very short time, even to the extent of adding graphics such as photographs from your own files or from the Internet. You can also select from a number of themes to enhance your site's appearance. Blogging and other free sites Sites such as Blogger and WordPress are probably the best-known blogging sites. Each gives you ample scope to tell the world what you are about and to present your information in the best possible light. Two other well-known vehicles are HubPages and Squidoo. These are online communities that encourage people to share their interests and passions with the community and the world at large. They allow you to build websites on you chosen subject within their rules. The community supports its members by visiting each other's sites and commenting on the content or if asked, providing feedback on how its members can improve their pages. All the sites allow moneymaking activity in the form of advertising or by allowing links to products you are selling. In fact, they encourage you to make money from your writing. When you first start out you would do well to visit these sites and see what ordinary people with few technical skills can achieve. You will see there is no reason why you could not do the same things. You can make money, but learn the rules Many people use these sites to make online money. Some people make a good living from them. But you do need to know the rules and work within them. For example, some sites do not allow what they regard as excessive commercialism. This means they can control how much commercial activity takes place. They can do it by limiting the number of links to a product you want to sell or by some other arbitrary rule that simply says your blog or site is too commercial - and the rules can change at any time. If they do not like what you are doing, they can simply close you down. When you have your own website you are not restricted in this way and have much more control over the content and marketing. Ideal way to start Sites like the ones I mentioned are ideal ways to start building your online presence and to begin marketing on the Internet. Through them you can learn the basics of website design and HTML, as you will encounter this on these sites and learn to use it. This will help you in your future activity, particularly if you want to build your own website. In the meantime you can start using one or more of these vehicles right now to express your opinion, tell the world your passion or market services or products to make online money.
