There is an old notion or belief that breast feeding or lactating mothers reduce weight much more faster than women who depends on bottle feed . Well, the notion is in research mode and nobody has really proven this to be a fact or myth. However, its been a general belief from a long time. Researchers with a sample experiment with two hundred thirty six lactating mothers in Montreal mentioned in their report that they allowed some women to breast fed infants and some to use feeding bottles to prove the theory. Astoundingly, they discovered that women who breast fed started to shed some amount of fat after 6 to 8 months. Whereas, women who used feeding bottles , followed diet regime and exercised including wearing a girdle belt were seemed to loose weight as fast within 3 to 4 Months time. So, researchers were not able to confirm the theory , but, believe that breast feeding will help mother to loose extra weight as due to the use of energy reserve while lactating.

It is not advisable to initiate measures to loose weight within first 2 months after child delivery. Due to dieting and strenuous exercise there will be reduction in milk supply . So, wearing a corset for weight loss will prove to be very effective after 2 to 3 months of delivery. Milk is highly essential for new born baby. Mothers should make up their mind that they are not going to gain their prepregnancy shape in any circumstances after child birth. However, they can reduce upto 80% of their prepregnancy weight. Women should give emphasis on slow and gradual weight reduction like around upto 0.7kg in a week without affecting milk supply. Healthy women bare minimum energy requirement is 1200cal/day and breast feeding mother requires a minimum 1800 cal/day. Fast weight loss will allow the body fat to intake toxins like environmental contaminants, lead, mercury, organic pollutants which in turns harms the body and the baby too. It is recommended to intake 5 to 6 small meals a day rather than 2 to 3 big meals a day or dieting. Dieting works negatively on health. Weight control organization also declared that the ideal weight loss is to shed away 30 to 35kg in 5 to 6 years time. Additional 3 to 5 kg weight can be reduced by wearing belly band after pregnancy.

Ideal diet plan aims at cutting down extra calories which leads to weight gain. It is advised to reduce fat intake and not to eliminate it completely because fat is a major contributor to daily energy requirement of 1800 calories. Fried foods should be avoided as it contains trans fats which causes cholesterol or heart diseases. Saturated fats like meat and dairy products , olive oil, salmon fish can be consumed to maintain required calorie level. Post delivery mothers should drink 9 to 10 glass of water a day. Low fat milk, whole wheat bread, cereal, dairy products, high fiber foods like apples, oranges, berries. Raw vegetables like carrot will help to reduce weight naturally.

Diet control to be followed by exercise , yoga and walking. Mother must wear post mate
ity belt while not exercising to burn extra fat . There are many belly wraps available in the market ,but, mothers should look for those specially designed for weight loss postpartum. They are available in designs like slip ins and zipper feature. Zipper are meant for c-section incision and the slip ins for natural birth.
