It can be daunting, even overwhelming, for most people who are confronted with the reality of Medicare supplemental insurance to have to choose a plan - typically, upon seeing the explanation charts and diagrams that outline in detail which plan is applicable to them and what it offers, most people get overwhelmed as to which plan to choose; the choices are many, the words, definitions and explanations even more so.

Circumstances and individual needs vary from person to person, and there are many choices available in an attempt to try and have something available for every need, but there are four basic plans which suit the majority of Medicare clients. What follows is an outline of the four most commonly applicable and chosen plans and what they entail (the explanations are basic; if one of the plans outlined seems like a possible fit, seek out more information about it to see if it truly is a good fit).

The F planr
This plan is widely regarded as the best Medicare supplement plan, and definitely the most commonly chosen plan - for good reason, too: it covers all the gaps in standard Medicare insurance. Purchasing this plan will mean that the buyer will pay a flat monthly rate; the flat rate fee will cover all medical expenses. This plan is perfect for people who simply want to pay every month without interruption; you don't need to keep track of anything as the fee does not change month to month. This plan is also positive as it means any medical treatments or services used won't result in the policy holder having any bills arriving afterwards.

The L planr
This plan works as follows: in exchange for a reduced monthly premium, the policy holder will be required to pay 5% of the bill for any medical services he or she uses or requires the plan takes care of the rest. This plan is perfect for individuals who are financially capable of paying for a reasonably sized medical bill but do not want to be on the hook for potentially bigger bills. Preventative services (*as allowed by Medicare) are covered in full and facility or hospital based services are also covered 100%.

The K planr
The K plan is similar to the L plan in that there is a percentage which must be paid in exchange for a lower premium; instead of 5% it is 10% with your maximum out of pocket expense being $4,600. Like L, this is a good plan for those who are seeking lower premiums and are looking to reduce the chances of financial difficulty related to possible future medical expenses.

The High F planr
The high deductible F plan - Often referred to as "High F", is the least expensive Medicare supplement plan. It is very simple to understand: you pay up to the first $2000 of any incurred medical expenses then plan covers everything after that. This plan is best suited to individuals who have a stable income, good health, and are not expecting any major medical expenses. The high F plan has a very inexpensive monthly rate.
