When we get caught up in the stress and troubles of everyday life, we forget to take a step back and even just for a while, learn to unwind and appreciate why we do what we do. Meditation and relaxation, when done even in just small amounts every day, can make a significant difference in helping you become a happier person. Meditation and relaxation is also especially helpful to those who are very busy. You don’t exactly have to be absent from work or file a leave of absence just to meditate and relax. If you are unsure how to do meditation and relaxation because you are busy, here are some ways you can integrate this into your life: • Exercise is a big factor for meditation and relaxation, and can be done in just as little as 10 or 20 minutes a day. It will also release endorphins, which promote happy thoughts, and this will instantly make you feel great, allowing you to focus even better. It’s also the cheapest and most effective form of stress management. • Find meditation and relaxation techniques focused on repetition that works for you. Repetition is important in order to break away from the train of thought that is causing you stress. This can be anything from yoga, breathing, prayer, music, or movement, done just a few minutes during your break each day. • Meditation and relaxation techniques don’t always have to be so serious – remember that laughter is the best cure for anything. If this is more to your liking, do something each day that makes you laugh. This will give your mind and spirit a boost and rejuvenate your senses. It can be as simple as talking to your officemate who never fails to make you laugh, writing down in a journal some moments that you’ve had uncontrollable laughter shared with loved ones, or watching a few minutes of a funny video. • If you are one of those who work through your lunch breaks, use this time to do something valuable and boost your tired mind. Use it for meditation and relaxation by doing something simple yet stress-relieving, such as taking a walk to a park and getting some fresh air, reading a few pages of your book, or continuing a handicraft project. • If you still find it difficult to make time and remember to allow yourself some meditation and relaxation, set an alarm if you have to. Allowing a schedule for it every day makes it easier for you to form a habit of meditation and relaxation that will go a long way in your work day and work week. The best times you can do so are in the early mornings as soon as you wake up, a mid-day or mid-afternoon break at work, or right after work. You can even incorporate meditation and relaxation twice into your day if you prefer, and you will be surprised at the great changes you will make.
