In September of last year, MegaPath Inc. – one of the largest privately held end-to-end facilities based providers – announced plans to increase its Ethernet over Copper (EoC) network to over 680 Central Offices (COs) by June of 2012. At the time, the provider offered EoC service from 200 COs.

Today, MegaPath says it has successfully raised that number to 500 COs located in a number of major markets, including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Denver, Portland, Miami, Atlanta, San Francisco, Dallas, Houston, Detroit and Washington, D.C., making it the nation’s largest provider of on-net EoC services. A spokesperson for MegaPath stated that the provider is “aggressively adding” to its EoC footprint in order to facilitate more sales opportunities for current and potential customers in need of more bandwidth.

In a press release, MegaPath’s president of business markets, Dan Foster, noted that “The SMB and enterprise markets are demanding more affordable ways to get high bandwidth, and Ethernet is delivering a reliable and secure solution at a breakneck pace."

About MegaPath

With more than 16 years of experience in service SMB and enterprise businesses, MegaPath delivers a full range of nationwide voice, data and security services with the power to keep your business ahead of the curve. MegaPath leverages its wide selection of data services, Voice over IP (VoIP) and Security technologies to enable businesses to enhance productivity, increase security, and lower costs.

MegaPath’s EoC service is reliable, secure, and capable of delivering symmetrical speeds of up to 45 Mb per second. That being said, however, it is subject to distance limitations. Generally, a user must be within two miles (equal to roughly 12,000 ft.) of a CO to take advantage of the service. By increasing its number of COs, MegaPath is able to provide Ethernet service to more customers in a greater number of locations.

Additional Information

EoC is an ideal service choice for anyone who is sick of costly T1s and bonded T1 connections, as it typically costs less than traditional access methods yet still offers the same speeds and reliability.
