Fondly dubbed as the ‘land of clouds’, Meghalaya is a beautiful state described as a nature-lover’s paradise. The capital city of the state – Shillong – has a unique lure that never fails to impress its visitors. Book a suitable North East tour package, and have a great holiday within arms of nature.
Some places have a beauty of their own. Geez, they look stunning and you quickly fall in love with them. In my list of such destinations, there is Rajasthan, Amarnath, Kilimanjaro and of course Meghalaya – a small north-east Indian state that literally means the ‘Adobe of Clouds’ in Indic languages.
The lovely land of Meghalaya is dominated by natural wonderments – green forests, lofty hills, the ubiquitous waterfalls, shimmering rivers and enchanting landscapes. Coming to this scenic heaven means coming close to nature; you get to discover almost all facets of nature that gives you an aesthetic treat. It’s rightly said that Meghalaya has been painted, by the God itself, in two colors: white and green. The white is for the clouds and the mist, while the green represents its tropical jungles; about one third of the state is forested, which boats a great biodiversity of mammals, plants and birds. And the reason behind this is not surprising, given that Meghalaya features an incredibly high degree of rainfall – about 12,000mm annually – more than any Indian state.
On my last visit to Meghalaya, Shillong was our targeted point. This hilly town is the capital of Meghalaya, and is well renowned for its unspoiled natural beauty and an alluring religious fervor. However, the scenic beauty on the way we drove through was also awesome, in fact eye-opener for first-timers. Rain-drenched hills with spectacular vantage points everywhere, small scenic villages where people continued with chores, and chocked traffic at narrow winding roads welcomed us on the way. I knew that Shillong is a popular city in Meghalaya, but had not expected to get it in such an astounding dress-up. It’s the center of education in the state, and hence attracts students from far corners of North East India. Lively markets where shops have been manned by Khasi women, graceful picnic spots and almost all contemporary ambiences in Shillong worth checking. One thing that’s both compulsive and terribly infectious in Shillong was the gambling. Almost every day, millions of rupees are placed on fortune by the prneople of this lively city.
When you’re in Meghalaya, it’s hard to surpass over its religious ardor, and the same goes with Shillong. There are many sanctuaries in/around the city, which allure tourists and the locals alike in hoards. Magnificently designed and well-decorated, these beautiful adobes boast matchless serenity and spiritual atmosphere. Shopping and dining here equally popular. The famous market is the Polis Bazaar area, where you can get a variety of goods at lucrative rates. Chinese, Indian and Tibetan food is popular in Shillong. A wide range of restaurants are there offering quality dining at varied rates. Momos are quite favorite, and are available almost everywhere.
Packages for north East India are widely available, and one can book them online as well as offline. Searching over Internet, you can find your suited deal for North East India package. Have a great time!
