You probably already know that, after puberty, menopause is considered the next life-altering stage that a woman has to go through in her life. What you might not know, though, is that menopausal changes can actually be controlled through one's diet. So, if you are currently going through menopause, you should take these dietary tips into consideration. Since your levels of estrogen will drop during menopause, the chances of your waist getting bigger and your breasts and hips getting smaller will be high. Fortunately, your body's distribution of weight can be fixed by eating less fatty foods. In fact, you can take complete control of your weight gain by avoiding saturated fats and eating healthier foods altogether. You can also choose to cook with olive oil, flaxseed oil or canola oil, and broil or grill your food as opposed to frying it. It would also be advisable to count your calorie intake and eat less. Also taking a daily vitamin or natural supplement products such as Amberen will help you fight back too. As always, drinking lots of water every day is also good. In fact, if you suffer from hot flashes, this would be the best remedy for them. You should also reduce your caffeine and alcohol intake if this is the case. If you are looking for general help for your menopausal problems, look for food with phytoestrogens, like soy, beans, legumes, yam, potatoes and fruits. If your main menopausal problem happens to be mood swings, you have to think of ways to increase your brain's serotonin levels. Nutritious cereals and whole grain bread can help with this, as can vegetables like spinach, tomatoes, sprouts and lettuce. Since you will have higher risks for stroke, heart disease, high cholesterol and heart attack after menopause, you have to increase your vegetable and fruit intake. This will clean out your arteries, while eating omega-3 fatty acids will improve your oxygen and blood circulation.
