The first appearance of a woman’s monthly period is a much-awaited event for every adolescent. It makes even the most childish of girls suddenly feel like a woman. In contrast, the time when this womanly sign starts to wane, in a time called menopause, is very much dreaded by every middle-aged woman. Although not all women suffer tremendously during menopause, the majority can struggle with one or several symptoms associated with the bodily change. As such, the typical woman would want to know how to find menopause relief in a simple and easy way.
Menopause relief refers to alleviation of its symptoms. These symptoms range from the best-known hot flushes, night sweating, insomnia, weight gain, depression, headaches, and fatigue, among others. What you need to know is that things really will get better when you know how to take care of yourself especially during this very tumultuous time. However, the discomfort that they give a woman can never be underestimated. Who else has gone through night after night of sleeplessness because of the hot flushes, the severe night sweating, and struggling with mood swings that seem to have no end?
The main reason why women suffer from one or more of these symptoms is the hormonal changes that happen during that time. This is why some people opt for hormone replacement therapy (HRT). However, there are many side effects for this treatment, and as such more and more women are looking for alternative ways to relieve the symptoms, such as the following:
1. Herbal treatments – This makes use of herbs. Among the most popular ones are the agnus castus, also known as the chaste berry, which has been used for many centuries as a general tonic. It seems to have a good nourishing effect on the pituitary gland, which is the endocrine gland responsible for balancing hormonal activity. The black cohosh is another herb, and standardized extracts have been proven to relieve hot flushes, depression, vaginal thinning and dryness, and even anxiety, much better tha
HRT. However, recent news has pointed to a possible risk of this herb on liver health.
2. Relaxation treatments such as massage and reflexology – Massage and touch therapy are known to provide relaxation to the muscles, which may provide temporary relief from headaches, anxiety, fatigue, and other muscle-related symptoms. The keyword, though, is that these treatments usually only provide alleviation of symptoms at the moment when they are being administered. At least it can still provide some ease, though.
3. Bio-identical hormones – This is a natural hormone replacement process, wherein bio-identical hormones are applied. For example, progesterone creams can restore progesterone levels to the right balance with the individual’s level of estrogen, while not having the side effects that synthetic hormones may bring.
4. Acupressure – Acupressure therapists claim that hot flushes, mood swings, weight gain, insomnia, and night sweats can be curbed by utilizing acupressure points on the body. Of course, these kinds of treatments cannot be directly proven by scientific study, but many users swear by their benefits.
These are but the simple ways that someone can get menopause relief in a natural way. These would be good things for a woman to try who does not want to try synthetic drugs or products to relieve menopause symptoms. After all, just because you want to try to soften the discomfort does not mean you would want the possible side effects along with the relief. At least the natural ways will assure you that you are not introducing more harmful substances to your body, and not increasing risk of irritable mood swings because of the side effects.
