Research is one of the most important aspects to succeed in detecting. In this section, we will provide you with the information you need to achieve a successful research effort. Many detecting experts know the importance of research, but do not waste the time or energy to conduct a thorough investigation before metal detecting. Many people are frustrated and dissatisfied with this hobby as a direct result of this. Without them, your results will be reduced and bored by detecting metals for the same old depleted sites. If you are serious about detecting metals and looking for great coins and effects constantly, take the time to learn and apply good research techniques. Metal detection info can be found in many different ways using many different tools. It can be as simple as studying old or complex maps such as reading magazines and historical documents in a community or historical library. Local Resources for Metal Detecting The sources and tools you can use to locate ancient treasures are endless. Some of the most common search tools are old newspapers, maps, books, magazines, and photos. Searching for locations can be as complex or as simple as it is. You do not have to spend hours and hours searching to find high-quality detection sites, but it takes time and effort if you want to succeed. One of my favorite tools is old detailed maps. You have identified a very detailed atlas of your region dating back to the early 19th century, and I use this atlas to find most of the currency search sites. Maps show the structures, terrain and real estate lines that I find most useful. Online Metal Detecting Resources The Internet provides us with many sources for finding good locations. Google and eBay are extremely good places to search for information on the internet. You will be really surprised by the amount of information indexed only on these two sites. Everything can be found by entering some simple search words on their sites. Remember that you are investigating metal detection and you should look for terms that are relevant to this ("old maps of Jamestown", "historic postcards" ...). You can also find lots of useful information in your local library, court building, historic community and municipal building. It's a good idea to pre-call if you plan on visiting one of these places, so they know what you are looking for, so they can make sure that they have the material and prepare two materials for your visit. Another great way to find new metal detection sites is to talk to some older people in your community. I went to some extent to volunteer some time at the leisure center for the elderly. They not only enjoyed my company and helped, they also enjoyed providing high-quality information and potential customers. Most of them were very interested in my hobbies and were more than happy to help.
