Today, one of the most common survey data collection methods is the use of the Internet. Many companies are now making use of web-based surveys to round up comments and suggestions from their customers. Although this technique is fast and relatively convenient for most people, it can be unreliable if the online survey form is not protected by a password. Some participants can answer more than one survey form, thus making the results fairly unreliable. One traditional strategy to conduct surveys would be to send it through snail mail. The cost of this survey method is much lower than most survey arrangements, but the return of answers is most of the time delayed. This type of survey collection is not applicable for those who might need responses that may require clarifications. However, it is convenient to the respondents involved since they can answer it at their leisure. Another type of survey data collection method is the use of phone calls. This is a more personal way in asking a set of survey questions, and may also have room for clarifications and further inquiries regarding the survey topic. This type of survey collection is cost efficient, and is suitable for a large sample group, be it for national or international participants. However, it cannot be used for topics dealing with visual samples and video demonstrations. A more up front type of survey data collection is through a personal in home survey method. In this case, the interviewer will go door to door of a particular market niche in order to gather answers. This method is recommended for audio and visual demonstrations, but can be costly on the part of the company. They would also need skilled interviewers that can persuade and interact well with the selected participants. Mall surveys can also be used as a form of survey data collection. Trained interviewers are hired to approach people inside the mall. While it is technically legal, it can annoy customers who may see it as a waste of time.
