Our body changes in multiple ways as we age. And the most visible effects are on the skin as it becomes loose and creased. This is primarily because of the reducing collagen that keeps the skin firm and youthful. While numerous treatments and surgeries have been devised to keep the skin looking fresh and supple, one of the safest and most effective ways of replenishing the lost collagen is microneedling. Microneedling for scars uses tiny, shallow needles to poke microscopic holes in the skin. The minor injuries trick the skin into producing more collagen to fill the 'wounds'. Therefore, the body's own natural healing process rejuvenates the skin and keeps it looking clear and glowing. This procedure is non-invasive, requires minimal downtime and can effectively eliminate on all kinds of skin problems - be it acne, scars, sunburn, pigmentation, texture or aging. It does not involve the use of chemicals or any other harsh products either. The excellent results of microneedling have spawned many do-it-yourself kits as well. The home kits usually contain a derma roller with instructions to apply a topical skin care product before using the roller on the skin. This will allow the cream to penetrate better into the skin and yield visibly better results. Users also declare that their skin looks smoother and fresher after a home derma roller treatment. However, home microneedling kits are no match on what can be achieved in a dermatologist's office or professional salon. The primary difference is that the needles in a home kit are usually under 1mm while professional devices contain needles varying from 1mm to even 3mm in length. In fact, a professional microneedling treatment begins with a topical anesthetic cream to slightly numb the area before the roller or pen (with needles) is used. As the home kit causes extremely minute indentations on the skin, it can only stimulate the skin and improve its texture and radiance. As the needles do not penetrate deeper, they are ineffective on scars, marks and wrinkles. To overcome this inherent flaw, some people use the home derma rollers in a very aggressive manner thinking that the needles will go deeper and give better results. However, this only leads to pain, scars and injuries. Moreover, microneedling for scars needs to be done very carefully. It's not just about the wounds, inefficient or careless handling at home can lead to infection as well. On the other hand, professionals work in a controlled environment where the needles are properly sterilized and safe to use. Microneedling NYC experts will also be able to customize the treatment keeping the type of skin, level of damage and other factors in mind. In sum, a professional microneedling treatment may cost more, but it yields noticeable results and is safe as well. A home kit can only supplement a professional treatment one at best.
