Mid-life, What the bleep is happening?

Now that I’m in my 50’s, I realize more and more that aging is an unconscious process and creeps up on you when you least expect it. Even though I feel healthy and take care of myself physically, there is always something showing up to remind me of my age. As I began my 50’s, my eyesight began to fade, and required I purchase my first pair of bifocals. Then my short-term memory loss tagged right along with my fading eyesight, reminding me of the unavoidable evolution of getting older.
I find it impossible to stay ahead of technology. It’s not that I’m afraid of technology, it’s quite the opposite. After all, I’m part of the Baby Boomer generation, a generation that is paving the way more with technology than our predecessor’s did. We’ve come a long way from the state-of-the art IBM Selectric Typewriter, a bottle of White-Out and carbon paper. In addition, I was one of the fortunate ones who learned how to write “Short-Hand” that proved to be an invaluable time-saver in the business world. I guess that was the equivalent to Texting today.
When I find myself trying to keep up with the fast and furious pace of technology, I realize it’s not the technology that’s the problem, it’s the speed in which it is moving and changing. But, one thing I know for sure, whenever we can push through a learning curve, and get to the other side, we conquer our fear of it. This improves our self-confidence and empowers us to blaze through the next obstacle. So when we can learn something new, it shows us that when we continue to learn, it’s like tapping into a fountain of youth. Our curiosity for wanting to learn more is inevitable.
So, even though I forget my passwords, can’t get my audio or video to work , and lose track of which software program does what, I can be mindful to take a deep breath, and know that sooner or later I will figure it out, it just takes that much longer now.
