Did you know that Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire is actually a huge town that may be found in the southern part of a North East England river called The River Tees? On the northeastern side of Middlesbrough lounges the Tees Estuary which is about 6 miles or 9.7 km away while on the southern part stretches out the North York Moors National Park. Middlesbrough is very much unlike the several other districts in Teesside because Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire exhibits a lot of modernity or urbanization unlike the other communities that have remained rural in nature. This urbanized village is also the biggest as far as land area and population are concerned. However, take note that it remains the smallest among many districts in North Yorkshire. But then again, others believed that the village is comprised of such vast land area mainly because it went beyond its original borders. It is believed that Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire exceeded its confines extending across the regions of Eston, the South Bank, the Normanby, Grangetown and Ormesby. Historically, this huge village in North Yorkshire used to be a fraction of Yorkshire's North Riding and it was in 1968 when it officially became the heart of the County Borough located in Teesside, North Yorkshire, England. Middlesbrough emerged as unitary authority in 1974 when it eventually merged with Cleveland, another non-metropolitan county in North Yorkshire. Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire is also very popular because of the Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge or what is more popularly called the Tees Transporter Bridge. This is actually the furthest away downstream bridge across River Tees. This bridge essentially links Middleborough and Port Clarence and carries what is called a 'gondola or traveling car'. This car is hanging over the bridge and may be crossed through the Tees River in as short as ninety seconds. Two hundred people may fit inside the gondola as well as nine cars which is equal to six cars plus one minibus. In other words, these facilities are truly powerful and are popularly called the Transporter. However, locals choose to call it as 'Tranny'. To boot, do not miss the chance of riding this great train in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire. The train is actually very long measuring about 851 feet or 259 meters long. The centers built between each tower measures 580 feet or 180 meters long and the bridge's beams carried at 160 feet tall or just about 49 meters top the road. Really, with The Transporter's general height of approximately 225 feet or a roundabout of 69 meters, it is not surprising why this bridge made it as the world's second largest bridge next to that bridge across Newport's Usk River in South Wales, England. Last but not least; the bridge pays host to a yearly celebration called the 'Annual Vintage Bus Running Day', wherein vintage buses allow people to ride for free in one Sunday of the month of April. From October 7, 1911 all the way to today, this remarkable bridge remains well-designed, functional and simply breathtaking.
